Looking to connect my rear view camera into the cig lighter circuit , anyone got a wiring diagram to tell me which is live & earth ( 3 wires) Van is 2009 Escape 100 mutijet (?) George Collings Posted September 19, 2011 Share Posted September 19, 2011 Wiring diagrams for such a new vehicle are on the secret list unless you have access to the manufacturers computer. Beware of the dreaded cam bus system whereby the various onboard computers communicate. Extra kit can corrupt signals if incorrectly wired. Having said that just why lighting a fag should be of interest to the rest of the vehicle escapes me or is it a reporting system to catch illicit smoking in the workplace. Big bruv and all that. Being practical if you can get the lighter out you will usually be able to see which wire goes where. Typically the live is to the centre connection and the earth to the casing. Beware of doing what I did and using a permanent live feed ( I wanted tobe able to use the RVC as a security aid withoutturning on the ignition). Use one controlled by the ignition switch as even when the monitor is off the cameramay still be live taking a samll current that flatens the battery over ten days or so. Dave Newell Posted September 19, 2011 Share Posted September 19, 2011 Forget the ciggy lighter as a power source, connect it to the orange wire on the ignition switch and fit an in line fuse.
