fairweather camper Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 I have been told there is a discussion going on in the forums about the easy lifter swivel wheel trailer, pros and cons, and such, but I cannot find it. Has anyone got any idea of the title or key words to use, have tried easy lifter, and swivel wheels, but nothing showing. Thanks :-(
BGD Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 I think the thread was about 3 months ago(?); and started as a more general thread about carrying a bike/scooter on a rack. Try searching for "scooter rack", "motorcycle rack" motorcycle trailer" "carrying motorbike" etc...............
flicka Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Hi Valerie Not sure if my thread regarding Trailer box is what you are looking for. I have done extensive research on the Easy Lifter Hydra Trail (swivel or castor wheel trailer) see http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=25111&posts=17 The swivel wheel trailer from Easy Lifter is their Hydra Trail model:- see http://www.easylifter.co.uk/hydra-trail.htm It is manufactured to carry a Motorbike / Scooter, but the platform can be widened to take a Mobility Scooter. There is also a variation on the theme in October MMM report from the Dussledorf Motorhome Show called the Space Extender, (IMHO it is very expensive though ) which has models from a chassis only @ EUR3800, through to a living module.@ EUR8,900 see http://www.spaceextender.com/Englisch/Bilder/bilder.html & scroll down to see the various models. Their text can be switched to English, so no need to translate from German. There is also a "French" manufactured version, which uses 2 Tow Balls (1 either side of the Tow bar) but although I found some old video clips of this I have not been successful in finding a Seller. (I think it may have dissappeared from the market) The big advantage (from my point of view) is that the Hydra Trail system is not articulating (so the trailer goes in the same direction as the Motorhome when reversing) & drastically reduces the Trailer length a sit does not require the usual lengthy "draw bar". It will also mean that I can reverse on a Pitch with the Trailer still attached to the Motorhome, not removed & stored at the side. Cons:- It is more expensive than a typical draw bar trailer. Depending on what you want to carry - payload is only 250kg I have been in contact with Easy Lifter regarding modification of their Hydra Trail & am awaiting their reply. The modification I am looking to do, is to have the wide platform for an Electric Wheelchair & without the ability to take it apart, as I am proposing to fit a Lockable "Box" for security & keeping the weather off the wheelchair. Have a look at their website, then If you have any specific questions send me a PM & I may already have an answer.
fairweather camper Posted September 26, 2011 Author Posted September 26, 2011 Thanks Flicka for your info, I have reserched the easylifter hydro, extensively, and thought it a very good product, however, a friend who is a Policeman has asked the question is it legal, as it is classed as a trailer, so must have suspension, and be approved, which this does not. Since posting the original enquiry I have found the forum it is in www.motorhomefacts, then scroll down to the mechanical section, then on motorcycle carriers ect. very enlightening, if you are thinking of buying one may I suggest you go and look at the forum, there are about 20 pages, but you only need to start at about page 10, hope this is of some interest to you, and stops you from making a costly mistake.
flicka Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Many thanks for that Valerie. I had been following that thread up to about 3 weeks ago & most of the concerns were not applicable to our requirements for a trailer that did not dismantle. So I did not pick-up on the Legality issue. Other concerns regarding quality of galvenising, etc I could easily overcome, For anyone looking at the Easy Lifter Hydra Trail. The thread is :- http://www.motorhomefacts.com/ftopic-85106-days0-orderasc-200.html pages 20 & 21 raise the legal issue. Guess I will have to start researching the Ezetow product:- http://www.ezetow.co.uk/ezetow.co.uk/Specifications.html Anyone looking for alternatives may find these links useful:- French castor wheel trailer 180kg payload (but over EUR3000) http://www.cladel.fr/ElementsRubrique.aspx?SITE=DELOUB1&RUB=15&MP_SS_RUB=ELEM&MP_ELT=DETAI&PAGE=1 http://www.remorques-charnoud.fr/detail.php?ref=1800200&ph=4&menu=tracty&page=camping_car American system – components 175lbs payload per wheel. http://www.doublehitch.com./dhbuy.html
fairweather camper Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 Glad to be of help, we have gone down the Ezetow route, and ordered one, (delivery mid November), it is very robust, and is road legal, a bit pricey but you get what you pay for, a real solid bit of kit. Micheal is a real nice bloke, and is very helpful.
flicka Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Hi Valerie I have sent you a PM. Hopefully I'm going to Coventry to look at the Ezetow, some time over the next week.
