Alternative to the Danbury Family

I am aware that there have been a number of recent postings on Panel Van Conversions and a number of members have researched the available makes/models thoroughly to suit their own needs and preferences.

I have been looking for a 3 berth conversion which, for mobility reasons, has unimpeded access through the nearside sliding door (no encroachment of furniture).

The best layout I had found was in a brochure for the Danbury Family (layout in picture). I realised that the nearside single rear seat would need to be removed (or better not included in the build) so telephoned Danbury. Unfortunately it would seem that they have no plans to re-tool and build this model on the new Renault Master base. I have searched for alternative vehicles with a similar layout (not fussy about the base vehicle so long as it is high top and around 6m in length) but so far drawn a blank.

Besides approaching one of the smaller converters and commissioning a purpose-built conversion has anyone come across a similar layout in an “off the shelf” conversion?

Hi Chris

Are you looking for 3 adult berths or 2 adult & 1 child. ?

The Autocruise Pace (or Acent) appears to meet your requirement

http://www.autocruise.co.uk/van-conversions/pace#modelDetail

There are 2 models in the Globecar range that may be suitable.

http://www.globecarmotorhomes.co

see the 599db or the 599htt (this is a 4 berth & has a double dropdown bed up front)

http://www.nuventure.co.uk/

Appear to be flexible in layout changes or will convert to your plans.

Have you been sniffing petrol? :D

None of those meet the requirement.

I'm sure Devon used to make a similier layout to Danbury with a seat that presumably could be omitted but can't see it now. I cannot think offhand of any others as having fixed rearbed and dinette up front leaves little room for galley unless you partialy block SLD, but most of the smaller convertors should be able to modify some thing to suit by losing a bit of galley storage.

P.S. just remembered something I'd seen recently!

From what I can make out this has front dinette, maybe the seat in doorway could be omitted, the rear has bunkbeds.

Many thanks to both above for taking the trouble to make suggestions.

The Autocruise models looked like a possible alternative but, as with a number of conversions, there is a raised floor around the front dinette which causes problems. Others have partially obscured sliding door (I should have been more precise and said that wheelchair access/manoeuvering required).

Fixed rear bed not as useful as rear dinette which converts into a double, but may be the only choice.

I'll keep searching....

Hi Chris

Another possibility is Murvi.

http://www.murvi.co.uk/ (but it has a page layout fault when I look)

They do appear in the Awards lists on a regular basis.

Although their standard models are 2 berth, they retain the FULL width of the Side Door & (what I think) is the widest clear floor space. It may be worth enquiring if they can fit a 3rd berth.

Their website shows a tab for Disabled adaptions & also states.

"Every Murvi is special, built just for you by our dedicated and highly skilled workforce who share your lust for travel and who care passionately about quality. Ever since we designed the first Murvi we’ve been updating and improving the range in a careful, continuous process of evolution based on technical progress and the evaluation of customer needs.

Your Murvi is built individually for you and although the standard specification is already extensive you may wish to personalise your new Murvi with your own choice of options from our price and specification list."
