deerhound Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I have noticed a block of channels have gone off on my freesat, like tiny pop, pop girl, etc, my Daughter liked watching the cartoons on some of them, I changed my dish to bigger one but transferred the LNB over from sky mine/oval type dish and wonder if this could be cause? everything else is normal. have purchased a couple of the satalite magazines but no information on same. Thanks for any help 8-)
flicka Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 There was an article on teletext the other day saying some of the "free" channels had moved on both freeview & freesat. It didn't specifically mention the channels you stated, but a retune of your box for the freesat channels may solve your problem.
Keithl Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Hi deerhound, We had a similar thing with one of our freeview boxes and no amount of re-scans would bring back the missing channels. In the end we had to 'Restore factory settings' before a re-scan would then find them. Maybe worth trying on your freesat. Keith.
deerhound Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 I think I tried a retune, it is the box with the satalites listed, it still shows the channel name and the details etc but no picture, will try a retune/retune! :-(
Robinhood Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Your dish/LNB change should not have caused a problem per se....but .......my suspicion is that, in carrying out the change you've reset the alignment slightly. The channels you mention are (AFAIK) transmitted from Eurobird 1 at 28.5E, whereas the majority of freesat channels are transmitted from 28.2E. On a true Freesat receiver, the channels will still show up on the listings and EPG if the Freesat EPG and Engineering channels are receivable from 28.2E, but if you are on the limit of alignment (one way) of receiving these it is quite possible you will not get a signal from 28.5E sufficient to give you a picture on the quoted channels. A bit of (very minor) tweeking of dish/LNB slightly further to the East may resolve things. (I've had pixellation in the past of channels on 28.5E because I Have a bl**dy great tree right on the edge of my alignment.)
deerhound Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 OK that is very good information, have been looking through web and came up with info that they have changed frequency, now on 11307 V 27500 fec2/3 I will try and enter them direct in memory and see what happens, think they changed freq on 9th Sep 2011? >:-(
Robinhood Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 If it is a FTA (Free to Air) box, rather than a (branded) Freesat one, then (if these are some of the channels that recently moved transponder - I know some BBC ones have) then you will certainly have to retune. (A Freesat branded box should take care of any retune) (Though you implied you had already tried a retune ;-) ). Patchy reception from Eurobird 1 (28.5E) on dishes focused on the Astra cluster at 28.2E is a pretty common complaint, and if the loss of signal was at the same time as your dish change, I'd still be suspicious of that. (As I understand it, the bigger the dish, the more critical and difficult the alignment)
colin Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Note that you may want to delete original chanels if you do an 'add channels' scan, else you will end up with two of each channels one of which will be blank.
deerhound Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 Thanks agin for help, just nipped out to motorhome for manual,(good covering of hailstones) the unit is Digital Satellite Receiver and on front panel is SL 30/12, very small unit, purchased it along with dish, Think answer is TP scan (whatever TP means?) and delete the stored empty channels first, will attemp this when weather here in bonnie Scotland improves? Next year! :D
Colin Leake Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I have no idea why but a simple rescan or retune will not restore the missing channels. What you need to do is to go,back to restore manufacturers settings and then do a retune. Some one did explain why to me but I forget the details. All I can tell you that that is what we did and it did work. Good luck.
deerhound Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Just had 2 hours of torture with the c-mag satallite box, by going in menu and TP scan I can alter the frequency to the new one, which is 11307 V 27500, after which a scan puts it back to channel 417???? and selecting the wanted channel which is 255 it goes back to the original/wrong frequency? There is no way of storing the new frequency? The first time I entered the new frequency on TP all the missing channels came on but when changing channel they vanished. Can I delete channels/numbers which have wrong frequency etc or do I need to delete entire list they do scan? and do I need to align on 19.2 deg to get channels back. Brain melting now! Thanks for any advice. :-(
deerhound Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Now all OK! switched it back on and the missing channels have appeared? thanks all. :-D
