Clementine
I am sure there is a thread somewhere on this forum but my search was not successful. We are looking for a nice Campsite in the New Forest, open at this time of year, as close to Southampton as possible, with hardstanding and as close to a Pub as possible. Thank you in advance. Clive
Setthorns is open all year. Forest Holidays run by the Camping and caravanning Club. (Our favourite until we moved here permanently) The Senteenary Site owned by the caravan Club. A bit posh for us. C.
lennyhb
Setthorns Forestry Commission site is our favourite. 3.5 miles from Brockenhurst superb woodland setting complete with disused railway line for cycling, often get deer wandering through the site. All hard standings with C&CC discounts less than £7 a night for a standard pitch, if you want a pitch with a hook-up at the weekend you will need to book, no need to book for a standard pitch. Sway is a 10-15 min walk and has a couple of pubs. We were there weekend before last, we cycled up to Lyndhurst for a pub lunch pleasant 20 mile round trip. vindiboy
Great CS site CCC behind Foresters Arms Pub at FROGHAM in the New Forest, fantastic walking area, NO HARDSTANDING but Sandy solid ground , no chance of getting stuck, about £4 night, no electric, one of our favourite sites we also rally there with the club. If you want all singing and dancing site try Bashley Park at New Milton, Swimming Pool ,Bar, Skittle Alley,Hook Ups etc, close to sea and in the Forest not cheap but a great site, Rallies held here too. Colin Leake
Don't take any notice of what that lot above are telling you. As ever it's not cheap but by far the best site in the New Forrest is the Caravan Club site called Black Knowle. Easy short walk into Brockenhurst for the shops, buses and the train station and walks out of the site in every direction coupled with the clubs usual superb facilities it's simply no contest. Best avoid the Caravan Clubs other site in the New Forrest called the Centenary Site. Modern clean facilities but bland location and poor public transport. Fine if you have a car and caravan but not so good for motorhomes users. Sorry I've just noticed you said at this time of year. Black Knowle is only open Spring to Autum. vindiboy
-Body Farm Nutburn lane North Babdesley, Southampton. Closest you will get to Southampton, it is a Caravan Club CL . short walk to North Baddesley where a number 4 bus will take you to Southampton or Romsey, it is about 15 mins drive to the New Forest from here. North Baddesley has a Pub, the Baddesley Arms wallking distance of the site.Public Footpaths close to the site and it is close to EMER BOG which is a site of special scientific interest, it has a board walk through it and Deer frequent the area.I live in North Baddesley. www.motorhomefacts.com/modules.php?name=Campsites&op.Paste this into GOOGLE . lennyhb
Can not agree with Colin Black Knowle to us is horrible it's all prim and proper and completely detracts the main reason for going to the New Forest. The main reason for going to the forest is to be immersed in the tranquil woodland setting.

As noticed on a later post, not everyone has the same view as you about your recommended site. It is good to provide information and ideas but please don't assume that others' views are worthless. 2) It is necessary to read the post correctly, especially regarding particular requests before one replies. Sorry if this sounds a little harsh but we often give opinions and our ideas - not absolutes.

terryW
May be worth looking at the MMM Campsite Finder, it appears to include most of those in the area open all year.
oldlowie
lennyhb - 2011-11-05 3:26 PM Setthorns Forestry Commission site is our favourite. Sway is a 10-15 min walk and has a couple of pubs. Agree Setthorns is a lovely site. We were there in September '10, but didn't find any pubs in Sway. There was a large (public?) house being refurbished just opposite the shop, is that the pub, and is it open now?
