Guest 1footinthegrave
Just to give you an opposing view. This year we went to Germany starting at Trier with the intention of doing the Mossel, however maybe we did not explore enough as when we started up the Mossel valley we found it boring with just endless vineyards, and not much else. To be honest I'm not sure how far we travelled before coming to the conclusion it did not ring our bell. We turned back and headed back over to France to the Alcase area, following the wine route, and exploring the mountains, which from what we had seen of the Mossel did not so much have the "hand of man" on the landscape. Some parts were simply stunning with just natural scenery, that's not to say others suggestions in this thread are not valid, I'm sure there are beautiful parts of Germany as well, just our take on it that's all, in case you want a plan x
arthur49
In northern Germany............ Stade - beautiful old town with very good stellplatz Lubeck - another beautiful place with a stellplatz about 10 mins by bike to centre Kiel - nothing special but there is a stellplatz to the east right on the exit of the final lock on the Nord/Ost (kiel!)canal. Sit feet away from the water and watch cruise liners towering above you as they pass by literally feet in front of you. Great amusement in the evenings with a glass of plonk (and Madjes seem to be a speciality here............ pickled herring yum yum) Arthur
Syd
Hi If you get to the Fusson area at the bottom end of the romantic road you must also go to Neuschwanstein to see Mad King Ludwig's Castle there, not too far away is Lake Konstanz and again close by but just into Switzerland is the Rheinfall ( A large waterfall on the river Rhine) at Schaffhausen, all well worth seeing. Put Rheinfall or Schaffhausen into your satnav and it will take you there We camped at a site in a place called Stockach (it was in the ACSI book) at the Northern tip of the lake I mentioned. Keep OFF the motorways in Switzerland as they are expensive. Have a good holiday
Barryd999
We started our recent trip in Germany on the Mossel, Rhine and Black Forest. Loads of pics and info on our Summer 2011 Blog at www.hankthetank.co.uk. Mossel is good but gets a bit samey and there isnt much to do but it is popular. Black Forest is terrific just watch out for the Stellplatz Killer at Triberg (see blog) :-D Constance and Bavaria or stunning (see summer 2009) and dont miss the Rhine Falls as previously mentioned but here is the thing. Whilst we enjoy the odd trip to Germany when you get to Switzerland you kind of wonder why you bothered!
