hi, in spain at the moment, just north of valencia and on our way south, eventually to benidorm.we would like to do a spot of "wild" camping in santa pola first for a day or two.does anyone know whether this is still possible.last year one could park by the marina or about 1 mile along the coast road (travelling north) but have been told this is no longer possible.we would like to know beforehand to save us the journey !

thanks in advance for any advice in this direction.

We camp all around Spain & Portugal using "free" camping and we regularly hear that a place we use is now off limits, ie closed to free camping. My advice is to check it out yourself, as from time to time the spanish cops move campers on, and that is usually where the stories come from.

We always ask the tellers of these tales, "where you there? did you see it was closed off? did the cops move you? Generally its no to these questions, they have heard it from someone else. We were moved off from Santa Pola boatyard in early 2010 after 5 nights, when we were back travelling late in 2010, guess what we checked out the boatyard and had 2 nights before moving off ourselves!

Get your Vandar working and check out the free spots, usually much better positions than sites.
