Why can't other Councils do the same or similar, rather than keep increasing.

Because it depends on how much councils have been overspending.

If they have been chucking money around like confetti it's easy to cut down.

If they have been careful with money, cutting won't be so easy.

That's a bloody good point I hadn't looked at it from that point of view, not sure if its the case with that particular Council but none the less its a very good point.

Ooops, have to say it but 'oop here' north of the Wall we have had a freeze on Council Tax for the last 2 years and is planned to remain for the next few. At least until it all goes totally belly up. Councils of course are bleating about meeting budgets but then find enough cash to throw at every daft idea they can think of. Mind you they have managed to increase all the prices of facilities such as swimming pools etc to get it back one way or another.

However I do admit none of them have actually cut the Tax.

But is that "good financial management" (?)

Seems daft IMO to reduce income when you have a dept of £133m & paying ongoing interest fees.

As they have consistantly reduced the Council Tax over the last 5 years & selling off Assets, is it not logical to assume the dept has been rising during that period.

At some time in the future, it must come back with a bite = large increase in Council Tax.

Sounds like local council propoganda trying to sweet talk voters, to me.

Have to agree with you flicka, what happens when the cupboard is empty. One of the biggest reasons why Westminster's council tax is low is because of the massive income of parking fines, so if you are fined for parking in Westminster you are subsidising the locals. Well they do need it, don't they. *-)
