Guest Tracker
Unless your insurance is due for renewal before you go changing insurers now may prove costly if the existing insurers are unwilling to provide cover for Morocco. Do they regard a 5th wheeler as a motorhome as in the usual sence of the word or is it a special policy due to the separable nature of the rig? We switched to Safeguard at renewal before our trip who provided a green card for Morocco for a month for about £15 a couple of years ago - but their policy was more expensive than the company we had been with and the built in breakdown cover did not extend to cover Morocco as it is not in Europe. Best bet may be to talk to the leading players like Safeguard, Comfort, Caravan Guard, Caravan Club, etc - a quick google will show many more - and get some quotes but make sure that if you do change due to no fault of your own that you ask the old insurer to refund you the unexpired premium on a pro rata time on risk daily rate rather than the short period rates that many of them love to apply for periods of cover that turn out to be for less than a year. Morocco is a fabulous country and we always felt safe - but it is Africa and a very different world to Europe so it can be confusing and daunting to start with. David Dwight
Hi Chris. We are with Safeguard. We went to Morocco this Feb/March had a geat time. Safeguard provided a green card at no extra charge, they c lass it as part of Europe, becauseit borders the Med we think. it also covered Romania,Bulgaria and a host of other european countries. Why the eastern side of Europe, aint got a clue. David
vindiboy
we are with Comfort and the cover for Morocco is included, BUT when we went we had to pay Comfort £17 for a GREEN document that the Moroccan Authorities demand. So in effect it cost us an extra £17 to go to Morocco. http://s394.photobucket.com/albums/pp23/malarth/MOROCCO%20TRIP%2009/?action=view¤t=a.jpg
OurTour.co.uk
Our insurers wouldn't cover us for Morocco (it wasn't on the cards when we set off in October because of our dog, then DEFRA changed the pet passport scheme and opened it up to us), and we weren't far enough into our policy to consider jumping ship to another company. We bought insurance at the border in Morocco. It wasn't cheap (€92 for a month of cover on a 1993 Hymer B544), but it gave us peace of mind. We also heard you can get cover through ADAC (German AA) but we believe you have to turn up in person at one of their offices. Enjoy Morocco, it's fab. We kept a blog of our trip along with some fab pics so you can see what and adventure you're in for.
