Dave225
At the beginning of December I ordered a DVD from Amazon as a Christmas present for a friend. It was part of an order for 2 tapes. The 1st arrived within 3 days so fine, but no sign of the 2nd. Today was the last date of delivery advised by them but nothing. Have just received an email to tell me that delivery may not be until 21st January and they regret it may not be delivered for Christmas. They also advise that I can cancel if I wish. You bet I will. Since when does Christmas arrive at the end of January? Now I have to shop locally to get an alternative, which I probably could have ordered locally anyway. My stupid fault to believe in the power of the Internet. Plus today receiving my ACSI book but no card because the Mail had opened it and lost half the contents makes me feel all jolly towards our mail services. Bah! Humbug! Brian Kirby
Dave225 - 2011-12-17 2:43 PM........................Plus today receiving my ACSI book but no card because the Mail had opened it and lost half the contents makes me feel all jolly towards our mail services. Dave Do you mean the card has been torn from inside the front cover flap? If so, oddly, someone has stolen the card, but left you the book. Card without book not much use, as they won't know where to use the card! However, book with card removed is clear evidence of deliberate theft of an item, so I'd push that back to Royal Mail, and ask them to investigate. May be someone taken on over Christmas dipping the mail. I think your Amazon experience is very unfortunate. I use them quite a bit, and have always found them excellent. Definitely not typical of them, IMO.
Guest Tracker
I too am very impressed with Amazon and we use them quite often. We bought a cordless hedge trimmer in June and it overheated badly in use so I emailed them and got a returns authorisation with no trouble. Then the replacement (which works perfectly) which they sent arrived before the carrier called to collect the returned one - all free of cost to me. Brilliant - easy - hassle free - and very price competitive!!
Dave225
Firstly apologies as somehow I have manged to put this in the wrong section, it was intended for 'chatterbox'. Maybe if I am lucky the Mods can move it. My excuse is old age. I have now discovered that there should have been a 2nd book with the card insde the cover. All I have is the sites book, which I believe is Part 2. I also believe there should have been 3 pieces of paper, also missing. The original post stamp has been covered by a Royal Mail sticker stating 'sent to Folkestone' as non delivered. However it was delivered today but in a opened format. Last year all Edinburgh's mail was sent to Heathrow as the local system crashed. A lot of Christmas mail was delivered in February So much for modern progress.. OK, not a good day as both Amazon and the Royal mail have manged to blow my ideas all on the same day.
mel wood
Sorry to hear of your unfortunate experiences. As regarding the ACSI books, you should be able to get compensation from Royal Mail to replace the books. I also am a very satisfied Amazon customer. I usually find it useful to buy Christmas presents on-line in November (hopefully thus allowing for items to be delivered in time for Christmas or to order replacements if I'm informed that something is delayed and that i can cancel the order). I think I am correct in stating that Amazon and some other companies have a policy that items bought a certain number of weeks before Christmas ( not sure how long) can be returned unopened up to a certain date in January if they are not appropriate. I think that in this particular instance you have been unfortunate and, as someone else stated, it is not typical of Amazon's service. (Usually I receive items well inside the expected delivery date.) Hope you manage to obtain the required present and that you get your ACSI books. Lord Braykewynde
Another who has never had a problem with Amazon and I've bought lots off of them or their franchisees. If I need anything Amazon is my first port of call. I'll probably end up wishing I hadn't opened my big gob now :-|

Mr Mrs Batty
Hi Dave think you have had a very unlucky experience with Amazon. Mrs B uses them loads ! She is a head of a Infants / junior school and buys what seems like endless books, stockers, teaching aid via Amazon and has always been very pleased with service / delivery. I have just bought an oil filled heater and a dehumidifier to keep our 'baby ' warm and dry in the winter. I ordered at around 2.30pm on line. The heater arraived the next day and the dehumidifier the day after !!! All as described and well boxed for transporting. Mr & Mrs B. :-S
Dave225
I can add that having 'bemoaned' my experience regarding Amazon to anyone daft enough to listen, I have been advised of several similar circumstances and that is just within a couple of days. The same message I received has been received by others namely 'a delivery date at the end of January'. I suspect that Amazon have been overwhelmed by Christmas and have reverted to just putting a very long delivery date on anything not immediately available, plus of course the option to cancel. They know that a Christmas present is no use in January and that many will just cancel, as I did. Saves them having to worry about it. . Moral is if you wish delivery for Christmas then order in August./September. As for ACSI then I hope to get a replacement but probably not until after the holidays. I do not travel until Easter so time enough yet, but b....y irritating. Also many thanks to the Mod for transferring my Post, again I did wonder where it had gone not realising I had put it in the wrong section. Guest pelmetman
Amazon is very good .....................Just bought a new digital camera (Business expense ;-) )............No hassle, no parking costs, no fuel costs, no hoards of grumpy shoppers *-) Which is why the high street will die a slow and lingering death :-( ....................I wonder how the government will replace the lost income form business rates/tax? ;-)
