terryW
Just had an email from caxton Fx offering a rate of 1.18 (85p)/Euro. Unfortunately no good to me as I don't go until May and these cards have no protection, that's a long time to have cash at risk but may be of interest to anyone traveling soon. Mel B
That's a good rate. I've just been reading up about the card and wonder if anyone has asked for remaining funds to be returned, if so, what rate, compared to the original loading rate, is given, ie is there a 5c, 10c or whatever in the euro difference? Or is it more than that? :-S

It's only used to to obtain cash, all other transactions are on a Post Office card. If I want cash I text the transfer then go to an ATM and withdraw it the next day and I normally only transfer the minimum £150. That way I only have the minimum cash at risk on me and on the card. I would never load the card with more than needed as the money is not protected and in these financial times I am even more cautious. Patricia
I used to have a Lloyds cash card which I found to be very useful albeit expensive. This has now been withdrawn. I normally transfer euros to my French bank account so will contact Caxton to check their rates etc. Lloyds charge £20 per transfer, or did the last time I used them, so I started using HiFX. These send me the daily rate (today 1.1965) but when I received a quote for transferring £500 it was down to 1.1617. Adding the fee £9 (this is fairly recent - used to advertise no fees etc.) it works out to only 1.1412! So they are adding fees and charges twice really. Going to do a bit more investigating! Our Tesco, which has a foriegn bureau , has a rate of 1.14 today, instant access and no charges. They also have a cash card system (Like Caxton) I think, which you load, and supposed to have FREE access in ATM's I am going to look into this after Xmas, as will be safer way to carry currency Euros in my case PJay

I thought the only time you were charged was if you withdrew in the UK, am I wrong?
