Aires du Camping Car Info website

Hi All

Has anyone been on this website recently? Everything has changed and I find it a nightmare to use-it's incredibly slow, you get too much info, you have to select, deselect then select again before you get into right area. When you've done this and checked 1 aire, you can't go back to 'carte' as you used to, you have to go through the whole process again!

Unless it's me being an absolute dumdum, this has made it really difficult to plan a journey/tour. If like me you are touring France next year you'd better start working it out now!

I used to use this a lot as it was easy, straight forward and you got pictures of most aires-now you need a Phd in computing to work out where to park up overnight

Yes, the look and feel of the aires section of the campincar-infos website has been radically altered, but (having had direct contact with the guy who 'owns' it in the past) it's probable that the conceptual changes will be considered beneficial once users become accustomed to them.

Most screens have a "Mode d'emploi" button that brings up a description of the revised formats and may allow people to optimise how they use the website in future.

For me, it is slower to use than before, but a lot more information is being provided, plus extra capabilities like being able to compartmentalise aires into their various types when searching. It's also possible that the revised website has been produced with the assumption that the user has a higher broadband speed than is commonplace in the UK.

Can't say I found the new version difficult to use once I'd spent a few minutes playing about with it but, although I haven't got a PhD in computing, I was an IT specialist for 26 years.

I didn't initially realise you meant the Campingcars-Infos.com site, Mike - I really like the new changes, particularly the map symbols showing what type of aire it is. And the tabs are quite useful, too. I've not used it "in anger" yet though, only played around at home.

On your point about going back to the map to check alternatives - if you go onto the Carte tab and use the "scaling" gauge (the vertical one on the left side of the map) to zoom out, you can keep going until nearby aires are shown, and you can then click on them on the map. (Or isn't that what you meant?)

Actually now I have come to play with it, I must agree it is better than before and maybe I was a little bit hasty in condemning it. I do find it slow though compared to how it used to be. Having read the instructions more thoroughly I can see what to do now! Perhaps I should have done this before I got all frustrated and swore at it!

Mind you as I haven't got a Phd and only school French it was a bit daunting at first-thanks for the tips guys

Mike

PS I'll stop sulking now and will go to France again after all in 2012 (I'd already booked the ferry so it was only pique!) :-D

Hi there,

If your french isn't too bad try this:

http://www.i-campingcar.fr/

It is a brilliant site for looking up aires in france.

Happy hunting!!

Meg

It's a useful website, but it's far less comprehensive than the campingcar-infos one. For example, the campingcar-infos site lists 58 entries for Manche (that's after restricting the search criteria to service-only aires or service-aires with overnight parking possible), whereas the i-campingcar site lists just 30 entries.

There are other 'aires' websites - these are just two examples

http://www.airecampingcar.com/

http://www.eurocampingcar.com/

picked up via this 'links' website
