Mel B
I don't know if you've seen the adverts for the Mary Berry Christmas Cake mix on TV but it was £10 in Tesco originally, then it was reduced to £5, we saw it on Monday for £3 so bought one (you can't buy the ingredients for that!). However today my hubby popped into one of the small Tesco local type stores and they had been reduced to £2!!!! 8-) So, if you're passing a Tesco, pop in and see if they've got any left and get baking. :-D
Brambles
Bought a second one today for £2. (£3 last week). Taste good as well. I only know because I cut the top of baked cake to make it flat and so tasted it. You just need the fresh incredients..eggs, butter and an orange and lemon if you want fresh zest. I just use lemon juice and a bit of orange juice. At £2 its a bargain, and local Tesco has loads left. They even baked one for display along with the spicey cup cake recipe in a bag as well to try and flog them. Today they started promoting as something the kids will enjoy making. Still not selling many ...very strange.
Klyne
The Delia one in Waitrose was down to £5, not sure if they have any left. David

Brambles
Just had a look at waitrose website - does not seem to come with Icing sugar or Marzipan which the Tesco one does. Apart from this recipe seems very similar if not the same.
Mel B
I'm going to be baking one of these tomorrow which should be interesting as I've never made a Christmas cake before! :$ However I haven't got any unsalted butter ... can someone tell me if it will make much difference if I just use normal salted butter instead? 8-)

However, Tesco does sell unsalted. More important, don't forget to add the tomato sauce. It's absolutely essential in Christmas cake! :-D

I assume I put it on top of the icing as a decorative feature? :->
Brian Kirby
No Mel, you add it to the cake mix. If you put it on the icing, it tends to drip down your front when you eat it! B-)
MandyAndy
Got 3 bags of these yesterday in Kettering Tesco's they had tons of them left at least 30 boxes I would say. I know what staff will be getting for their bonus this year :-D :-D Just bought them to make fruit cakes as someone says the ingredients would be more than this cost. Out of date middle of Feb on mine. Mandy
Mel B
Well, I made it yesterday - as I don't have a large enough round cake tin I split it between 2 loaf tins, which is better anyway as hubby likes to have it with a slice of cheese on, so it can be cut easier for that - they came out very well so I'm quite pleased to say I've not done it before! :D
