Seasonal warning. Take heed!

For the benefit of everyone, I'd like to share an experience with you that I had last weekend regarding drinking and driving. It's relevant during the forthcoming festive season.

As you probably know, some of us have had the occasional brush with the authorities on our way home from the odd social session over the years.

Well, last weekend, I was out for a few drinks with some friends and had a few too many beers, more than maybe I should have had. It happens.

However, knowing full well I may have been over the limit, and knowing I'd just missed, by a couple of cars, being pulled over and breathalysed the previous week, I did something I've never done before - I took a bus home!

Anyway, I arrived home safely, enjoyed the ride and it was all free of worry about police pulling me over and testing me.

I know we often avoid doing this and take the risk of using the car to go home but...DON'T DO IT; the police will eventually catch you!

I'm sharing this with you because I found the whole experience a pleasant surprise, particularly since I had never driven a bus before!

As a more serious footnote to his amusing Post. Be warned up here north of the Wall they are again making random stops of vehicles and checking alcohol levels. There does not need to be any infringement, they can just pull over anyone they like.

The other thing is the Scot Exec is planning to reduce the limit up here to 50mg. That equates to a small beer or glass of wine, not a pint. Basically any alcohol and you could be over, especially the morning after. It could lead to you being legal in England but stopped and banned if you cross the border.

Basically as 'Judgemental' states, they are trying to ensure you just do not do it.

.

That should not be a problem as my vehicles are all teetotal - unless the anti freeze needs diluting!

Banned from where though? Scotland? Cos if you breath 52mg and are over the limit in Scotland English law would not recognize you as being over so I dont see how that would work.

I dont think levels should be lowered to be honest and certainly not zero as you could feel fine the next day but its hard to tell if you still have alcohol in your system. I must admit these days if I have a skinful I tend to just avoid driving the whole of the next day.

I saw a item on the news the other week saying that the last bendy bus had been taken out of service in London:;. Ever since then I've had this insane fantasy of buying one and converting it into a luxury Motor Home:;. Just imagine the look on a wardens face when you turned up on site with it:;. Fortunately I would not be able to drive one:;.!

Bloody daft place to park - typical Volvo driver!

......getting out of it must be worse than a timid tugger reversing a caravan though!

You can just imagine the driver.........

.......now was it forward and steer right, or backwards and steer left, or ...................?

:D

Interesting comment Barryd999. Just how they would apply that one is going to be fun. However, you can receive a prosecution for an offence in one country and it be applied in your own one. I do know that if you receive a 'ticket' in Texas for example, it is applied in the UK and vice versa.

What I suspect is that the UK Government will follow suit pretty rapidly as they have ideas in the same direction, and as it would match EU law, who is going to argue?

I just have this picture of a drunk standing at the border, just on the English side shouting 'come and get me ya ba.....s' with a frustrated Scots Plod on the other.

The following, believe it or not, is not a joke.

Some 35 years ago my friend was returning home after a very late session and decided he wanted to visit his aunt in north wales, as he staggered down the road he realised that driving his car the 180 miles would be a bad move as he might get nicked, so in his intoxicated state he thought it would be a good idea to half inch a milk float. 8-)
