Hi all, am looking for a sat tv system for my Mc louis due to future analogue switch off. Would rather spend less than thousand (much less). Have no knowledge of sat tv at all, any ideas?

:-D Hi matt. It all depends on exactly what you want from Satellite TV? It also depends on what Satellite dish you are using at the moment? To use a Digital Satellite receiver. You require a Universal LNB fitted to your dish. You can buy a basic Free to air Digital Satellite receiver from ebay or online shops. Alternatively, you can buy a Sky receiver. Either just for free to air or with a Sky package. All teh information to help you make a decision can be found here (in no particular order) :- http://www.digitalsat.co.uk/frontpage.html http://www.satcure.co.uk/ http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/ http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/satellite.html http://www.sailgb.com/sshop/tech_info.asp?ID=234 http://www.net42.co.uk/sat-tv-FAQ.shtml

Personally I'd stick with 'freeview' which should keep you entertained and up to date with news etc. Just get a cheapo freeview box, mines a Fusion FVRT which has a hard drive and lets me record, and an aerial, i use a 'Total Control Freeview Indoor Aerial' cost £14.99, from Argos that will get you reception and your away. Reception can be a problem sometimes but in London i've had very few problems once the aerials logged onto a signal.

Hi matt As bubblechris says freeview is a cheaper option to install. Unfortunately, there are still many areas around the country that do not get digital radio or TV - I know we live in one!! For most of the time you would be ok though unless you want to tour France etc in which case I don't think you can get freeview. In preparation for analogue switch off at home we have installed NTL cable (gives us TV, phone and broadband for £30 per month) but on our new motorhome (due shortly) we are having the Oyster Caro satellite system and a Pace minibox (£65 on ebay) so that we have coverage through most of France and much of Europe. We chose the Caro because it is only 13cm high when closed and we have the motorhome under a carport but before choosing we also looked at a variety of other options such as the small, freestanding or mounted Multimo satellite dish (there are also others of this type - see www.roadpro or www.leisurepower for details) and the maxview range which is a bigger dish but includes freestanding on a tripod, roof mounted crank-up and semitronic models. In the end we decided to take the plunge and go for an automatic version for many reasons but mainly space, ease of use and speed of setting up/dismantling. Best of luck with the search. Regards, david
