Photos of nice Aires

Recommended Posts

Here is a photo of a nice (free) Aire in France that we stayed on last November.

It is at La Motte Beauvron on the N20.

Any more from Forum members ? (this could be a valuable source of information for planning purposes).

Edited to show the N20 not the A20 :$

I agree inthe old days I just posted happily away , why did they change it and make it so hard to get pictures on here ?.

See if this makes any sense.

For pictures actually in posts, you must re-size the file to below 100kb. Much of this can be achieved by re-sizing a copy of the picture (i.e its actual dimensions in pixels ) to roughly 700 x 500 pixels. (If your picture exceeds these dimensions it will too wide for the standard forum screen, forcing out the borders to create those infuriating posts that don't fit onto your screen.) Then tinker with the .jpg compression until the file size drops just below 100kb. It can be useful to put all the re-sized files into a folder, or directory, of pictures of similar size on your computer, since otherwise, when you come to upload them, you cannot necessarily tell which version is the one with the smaller file size.

Then, when you go to make your post, click the box beside "Attach a file after posting" at the foot of the forum edit screen, and then click "Submit". That will take you to a sub-screen from which you browse to the location of the picture on your computer, select it, and OK it. The picture will become visible only when posting has completed. You cannot, so far as I can discover, control whether the picture shows above, or below, your text. If you need to go back to edit text, the picture will not appear on the edit screen but, providing you don't change anything other than your text, will re-appear as before, on the actual post.

I agree with Michele (and others). I'm quite capable of altering size/resolution of digital images but why should I in these "user friendly" days (if you have to Irfanview is a good free image manipulation program).

Many forums and other sites (Ebay is a good example) will import any size of picture and automatically re-size for display purposes before linking on their website. In fact I can't think of any other site I use which insists on a particular size/format of images before importing.

It's a shame that when this site was updated? recently this facility was not incorporated as I have lost count of the number of posts complaining their photos have not been displayed.

This thread is a good example of what might have been achieved.

Brian again thanks , I seem to have the other problem to Chris. I can't rezise easily the compouter don't give me the option . So I end up getting the kids to do it . I managed one yesterday BUT what a bleeding cuffufle ... I agree whole heartily with Chris you don't have to resise on other web sites forums .why in the hell in this day and age should we be made to do it on here . After all most M/H are our age what in the hell do I know about computers , sod all.

I agree with chris again shame about it because look what could of been achieved perhaps I will write to them , its about time they changed .After all it was like it before so why did they change it in the first place ????unless its because if you remember it used to make the thread be wide on the page . so what !

Great pics Barry some of em are a bit car parky but others look like CL's.

I need to get abroad some time soon.

PS

What is the scoot ?

Thanks. Just a random selection really to see if the photo thing would work. Scooter is a Peugeot Speedfight II. Two stroke, 100cc, 60mph on a good day with the wind blowing in the right direction and about 70-80mpg. Its getting on a bit now but it only weights 95 KG and there isnt anything as powerful and as light available to replace it whatsoever!.

Thinking about the Honda Vision 110cc at 103KG but have yet to test one. I fear it will be too small and underpowered.

My conclusion after seeing so many photos of aires is that the nicest ones are the ones that look like campsites.

;-)

Yep, agreed and there are plenty although most of the nice ones rather resemble large CL sites. The big advantage though being you just turn up and leave when you like, they are usually frequented by like minded well behaved motorhomers and most of the ones we choose to stay on are either free or a few Euros.

Many people seem to miss the point of an Aire - sometimes because they don't understand how it works and sometimes because of prejudice or ignorance and sometimes because they are just being bloody minded !?!?

An Aire is not a campsite, it is not intended to be a camp site and it will never be a substitute for a proper camp site because an Aire is not intended or kitted out for long stays like a camp site.

What an Aire, almost any Aire, does do so very well is to allow the nomadic wanderer to casually stop pretty much anywhere along a chosen tour route at any day or time without any form of booking or registering at reception - and often at no cost - but that is a bonus rather than a prerequisite.

For those who prefer a campsite jolly good luck and it's a good job we are all different, but for those of us who only use an Aire for an overnight stop in between nice places to visit by day it matters not whether it is grass or tarmac because it's only somewhere to park for the night and we won't be there long enough for it to matter. Indeed when it is wet a hard standing is wonderfully stress and mud free!!

Sorry to deviate from the original topic but if anyone is going to Austria and are looking for a campsite in/very close to Salzburg then they MUST give this one a try

http://www.camping-nord-sam.com/en/268/home.html

You will NEVER experience better toilet/shower/dishwashing facilities ANYWHERE.

Walk out of the site, turn right at the entrance, walk along the lane 150 yards, straight over the small crossroads, and 15 yards on your left is a really nice, immaculately clean bar/restaurant and the locals are very friendly

Had a wonderful week in there

....they must have improved them then! (and it implies so on the website).

We've stayed at Nord-Sam several times, and like the site a lot, but the one down-side it used to have was an all-pervading smell of drains around the facilities.

There could be a theme starting here, because I have no doubt that the best facilities I have seen on campsites have all been in Austria. The campsite at Umhausen used to take the prize, but was surpassed on our latest visit by those at Sölden!
