Robinhood
You need category C1 to drive anything over 3.5t (and up to 7.5t). Anyone aged 72 would be likely to have had this category on their licence at aged 70 (presumably most having passed their test before 1.1.1997) but, unless it is requested to be retained at 70, it is removed. Retention at 70 also requires a Medical (repeatewd every three years) and notification of the results to the DVLA. If the category was not retained at 70, I'm not sure whether you can subsequently recover it (without, of course, going through the appropriate test procedures).
