Syd
Sorry but when posted nothing came up so here is me venting my spleen Just days before Christmas we had the pleasure of a car pulling out from a side road on our o/s and slamming into the o/s of our car. Made the usual claim, since then I have been contacted by no less that fifteen different companies all wanting to discuss my claim. Solicitors, Car Hire companies, No win No fee, etc etc. Today I had finally had enough so I started with my broker, moved onto their claims dept then onto the company who choses the company that will choose the garage that will repair our car, moved onto the company that chose the garage that will do the repair and the company that will provide the hire car, then moved onto the company that provides the hire car and finished with the actual garage that will do the repair and read the WHOLE riot act to each one of them. I demanded to know who had sold my details onto all of these people and just why I have to deal with so many people, got a lot of stuttering and fobbing off and so as each one of them floundered with their feble excuses I told them that their services were no longer required BUT the car hire company demanded my card details, I demanded to know why they needed that and they said that they needed as security for their car, I flatly refused to give the details and they in return said that they wouldn't let me have a car without them and so I told them I did not require their car and for them to put it where it would be uncomfortable. Fifteen mins later they rang back to say they would provide the car without the details, I told them again what to do with their car. Each company was asked where they were based and suprise suprise they all come from the LIVERPOOL area I am absolutely livid with this bloody lot and just wish I could sue someone. Anyway I now intend to deal with this claim myself and choose my own repairer and cut this bunch of bandits out altogether, our Insurance company are not happy but I forced them to state wether they would honor the claim or not if I did it myself and they had to admit that they would have to honor it but that it would lengthen the time that it took so I explained in detail to them that that would be ok as it was them in the first instance who would have to meet the hire car charges so they could take as long as they like. The fact is that I really don't have any need for a hire car anyway but they have got me annoyed now. >:-( >:-( >:-( >:-( >:-( >:-(

Brian Kirby
Hey, good boy Syd, and keep it up. Just don't let it get you down or make you ill! :-) If only more did the same. Your insurer isn't LV by any chance, is it? :-) Syd for Queen. Syd for Queen. :-D
CliveH
Good for you Syd - well done mate. If you are the innocent party you can demand to be in control of who repairs your car. Re giving your details to other companies - have a bit of fun if you have £10 and demand details of everything your insurance company has on file for you and everyone/company your insurance company has released your details to via a "Subject Access Request" (SAR) under the Data Protection Act 1998. If you google it you can get a pro-forma letter rather than you having the "re-invent the wheel". I have had enormous success using this with Homeserve in particular almost begging us not to proceed with the SAR but we insisted and it resulted in a complete refund of all our premiums plus 6% interest because using this information we could easily prove that they lied to us! Very powerful. Ask if you want more info.
George Collings
This gravy train has got to stop and perhaps we can start gumming up the works so it becomes unprofitable. Nice one Syd.

Syd
Thanks for the encouragement Brian, I will never support you again over this queen business :D :D Had to laugh at some of the replies though. Clive, thanks for the letter bit, I had already decided to do that but the letter proforma will make it easier and also at the same time show them that I have been to the official data protection site and so probably know what I am doing, ahem :$ :$ Seven letters going off first post, special delivery tomorrow morning. Now that I am started I intend to send this request letter to every single shop that I have bought any large item from in the last year as well
