Mobile contract expiring?

What a pleasant surprise I got when my contract expired recently.

I'd done some shopping round and was aware prices had fallen but when it came to actually doing the deal, blimey, happy days indeed.

I went on a sim only deal, my HTC smartphone still more than meeting my needs. I've got enough minutes, data and texts for, wait for it.............£20 per month LESS, yup, just £7 a month on a 12 month contract.

It got better though. Whilst on the phone to Orange, I asked about Lady T's contract which expires in June this year. Oh no problem, you can pay it up if you like and we'll discount it by 33%.

So I asked what new smartphone she could have and a suitable contract to meet her needs and up it comes at £10.50 a month, 2 year contract.

Talk about happy, we've halved our monthly mobile outlay and got 'er indoors a new smartphone into the bargain.

I have to admit we are real parochial hillbillys when it comes to mobiles. We do both have one but both are PAYG, hers being an original tarriff from many years ago. We average £50 per year for each phone so as I say, not exactly hip hop users. The wife's phone was bought from Virgin in 2002 but when we asked about a trade in allowance we were told 'that for £10 they would dispose of it for us'. It still works even though it has a green screen and no pictures, and she is happy so what the heck. The only time we use it is on holiday to phone the kids.

We are still on Morse :-D

Might upgrade to cans and wire.

I wouldn't bother if I were you.

We use cans and wire, and I think it's very much overrated -

- distances are very limited.

:-(

Works better if you take the beans out of the tin first.
