Spanish Passion/Espana Discovery

We have used France Passion sites on our 3 european trips (only had the van for 2 seasons) in conjunction with ACSI sites and have had some memorable stopovers.

We are planning a trip for May, over 5 or 6 weeks, this time dipping into northern Spain. We shall meander back thro' France.

Does anyone have any experience of "Spanish Passion" or some memorable commercial sites in Northern Spain. Bilbao, Avila, Zaragoza area?

We have ACSI and Caravan Club Europe Guides

Finally; does anyone have experience of one-way (outward) ferries; Portsmouth - Bilbao, Are they cost effective? Ducato Panelvan 2.3.

Thanks

Hi Alan

You can find prices on the Brittany Ferry web site It is a 24 hrs crossing, so you would probably want a cabin? They also go to Santander. It is very nice on the North coast, but can be wet in May Pelmetman has a thread running re sites in Nth Spain, so you may get some ideas from that as well

There is book for Aires in Spain & Portugal, from Vicarious Books

Thanks PJay;

I think we'll end up driving down and spending a bit more time in France, visiting France Passion sites; the ferry costs don't really stack up. We've been loaned the Spain and Portugal Aires book so we'll see what we can find.

We've had some really good France Passion sites, so would rather go that way really.

About 150 people have looked at this thread, so there would appear to be some interest in Spanish Passion; we'll try to find out what they are like; looks like we are going end of May for 6 weeks,

all the best,

Hi Alan

I agree the prices are high for the crossing. we travel on the fast cat from Portsmouth to Cherburg, only 3 hrs crossing. It's not as cheap as going from Dover, but for us living within sight of the ferry port, we like it. It can take 3 hrs to get to Dover from here , say no more. Did try the tunnel last year, with Tesco Vouchers, as we went to Belgium, so that was Ok. Usually we are going via Brittany, as we have friends there, so the cost of fuel is much grester, and the time a lot longer. driving

Have never used France Passion, and did not know there was a Spainish one, We use ACSI most of the time, as we prefer sites

Hi again;

We like ACSI sites, and are a bit fussy about aires, only having used the one at Mont St Michel. (we've seen some that looked really attractive, but most have been too crowded, so moved on)

We've decided against a few France Passions, but we've stayed at a trout farm, pig farm chicken farm, oil producer, dairy farm and caravaniste etc etc; all very friendly and good produce.

We can manage a couple of nights "off-site" particularly if the produce is good. Looking forward to seeing what Spain has to offer,

cheers
