Honda i10 suitcase

I bought a new Honda i10 suitcase generator last year and used it one weekend with orbiital sander to sand down the teak on yacht worked fine stored it for the winter in the garage and come to use it this year it starts first time as usual but when I switch off it wont stop just keeps on running I have to stop it with the choke lever anyone had this problem Thanks for any help.

The problem sounds like it is behind the on/off knob. Its not operating the switch. It also operates the fuel valve and takes 2 or 3 minutes for the engine to use up fuel in the carb. So test again to see if possibly the fuel valve is not being operated either, by leaving to run for much longer and see if it dies by itself.

Thank you Brambles, it has run a long time with the switch turned off so i think it is some thing behind the switch I have poured WD40 behind but it didnt help and i dont want to take the case apart as it looks like a big job.

Bit off thread I know but a tip for those with generators and or garden machinery that may be left without being run for some time. Add a fuel extender to the petrol to prevent it going off and producing problems with starting. Readily available from most specialist garden machinery suppliers and marine suppliers where it is used for outboard motors that are layed up for the winter.

 

As an alternative you should start the generator up and let it run for half an hour every month or so. This works but the problem is that most of us, me included, will forget to do so.
