Tupman
Last year 2005, whilst boating on the Sharpness Canal, we met on the bus from Dursley to Slimbridge, several very nice people, who were members of "The Weekenders Club" They were staying at the Tudor Arms Caravan Site, we were moored up on the Canal. We invited them to see our boat "Just Now" and a cup of tea , and they returned the invitation to us to visit them at the Caravan Site that evening. We have now purchased our own Motorhome, and would like to meet up with them, I know some came from the Bournemouth area, the only name we took was Liz. They were going to Manor Farm, Long Sutton,Somerset on the 20th August of that year. I do hope through your Forum that we can trace them. We are looking forward to our first year in our motorhome, and feel sure that we shall get some helpful tips from MMM forum.
Derek Uzzell
If you GOOGLE search on "weekenders club" there seems to be a variety of organisations with similar titles that have a 'leisure' objective. Don't know if this will help you get in touch with your pals but it might be worth trying.
Mel B
Hi Tupman and welcome 'aboard' (sorry, couldn't resist!). To go off topic for a mo, do you have any suggestions where I could get some sensible info on where we can take a canadian style canoe for a paddle on the canal systems? We can often find canals but accessing them safely (eg steep sides) makes it impossible to launch and the BCU website isn't that helpful on 'dropping-in' points. Tupman
I have never seen canoes on the Sharpness Canal, but the River Avon, which we are moored on, we have seen several canoes on the river, in fact there is a club that go on holidays canoeing on the rivers. If you get in touch with LANT (Lower Avon Navigation Trust) based at Wyre Piddle in Worcestershire, I am sure thay can help you.
