I charge our Kindle, mobile phones, laptop via a cheap Halfords inverter as we drive along...........saves draining the leisure battery ;-)

Hi Barrie

If you buy one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/All-1-Universal-12V-USB-Car-Cigar-Socket-Lighter-Mobile-MP3-4-Charger-Adapter-/310366810848?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneChargers&hash=item48434db2e0

you can plug it into your cigarette lighter and charge it whilst travelling or not. You just plug your USB connector into it. Job Done!

Just a word of warning, some cheaper 12v plugin USB chargers can interfer with the radio reception or ipods' playback with hum or degraded sound.

Also it pays to check that the output of the usb charger does not exceed the input values of the reciving device. Input values can range from 500ma to 2 amps.

Otherwise crispy batteries may be on the menu. *-)

Other way around? I'm no electronics geek but understand the device will only draw the current that it needs at a fixed voltage (usually 5V DC for these things), the charger does not supply it's maximum rating by default.

Output current rating of USB charger must equal or exceed input current rating of device otherwise charger will be destroyed as device tries to draw more current than charger can supply.
