slovenia tolls etc

We were in Slovenia the year before last, but the latest van is 3.5t, which falls within the "vignette" (sticker) system for Slovenia.

Vehicles over 3.5t do not require a vignette, but must pay at pay-stations on the motorway, and not use the vignette lanes at these stations.

You should get some info here (and note that it implies that some sections are pre-pay at a station, and some are pay on exit - one would assume that which should be obvious, but if in doubt, stop and ask - English appears very much to be the second language spoken).

You should only have to pay for motorways, and despite what you may be told, if you go through the Karawanken tunnel you can exit directly at the end, and avoid the motorway from then on.

The motorways were very good and a quick way of getting across the country.

Depending on your route there, you may also get caught up in the Austrian motorway system, for which you will need a Go-Box. Whilst it would slow your journey (no bad thing in Austria, IMO) there are generally options for getting across Austria without touching toll roads.

....that I can't advise on, it's a route I haven't used.

One thing I did note on the Slovenian tolls which I forgot to mention is that they no longer appear to take the more common credit cards, so it looks like you'd better have American Express, or carry cash - (Euros will do nicely).

We went last year, entered through Slovenia and back via Venice and Italian lakes. the roads are fine, were expecting major traffic around Treiste but it was a very easy drive and this was in August (height of season)

We are under 3500kg so not a clue re being over..surely a goggle search should tell all?

use the site search function, lots of interesting stuff on area. We much prefer the Islands, Not impressed with Istria peninsular, although beautiful towns, it is crowded and has expensive campsites and sea water filthy avoid August as its when the Italians flow in and place is packed...

Rijeka to Zadar along the coast road is a stunning drive. Superb road with plenty of spots to pull over and very little traffic, albeit we were there in May/June. a few small camp sites along the coast. Recommend an aire style site at Senj called Camping Skyver (10 euro) Parked on a harbour wall with good/cheap restaurant attached and large supermarket nearby.

We stayed here last year and would agree with the comments about it. We crossed Slovenia from Austria to Croatia last year off motorway and had a lovely couple of days driving through some gorgeous scenery with very little traffic.
