rear number plate lights

On my Merdedes Vito work van there are two lights to illuminate the number plate, one of them is not working, I replaced to defective bulb that had blown with a new one and it is still not working, must be a fault somewhere on the line, would that be an MOT failiure? would one working bulb be enough to pass a test.

Is it just a bad earthing connection ? Bit of a clean with wet'n dry required ?

 

Or a fuse ? I was surprised recently to find that nearly all the lights on my car seem to have separate fuses.

Only one of two bulbs working = MOT failure, all lights fitted must be working.

 

But I would expect any MOT station would notify you before issuing a failure certificate, if you told them to replace.
