My Grandson has a SYM Motor Cycle and has been notified of a serious recall on it, the recall affects 50 cc and 125cc bikes and involves welds on the chassis, these welds are breaking causing the complete failure of the bikes frame. We took the bike to our local dealers Yesterday and they said they had to impound the bike as it could fail in use and be Dangerous, we did not allow them to impound the bike but it is locked in my Garage and out of use, we are now in battle with SYM as parts are not available till at least the end of the month ,so Grandson is without his bike and needs it to get to College etc, So if you have one of these bikes be aware of the danger.

To be honest,I'd do the same as Vindiboy..

...Until they've got the ALL of the(uprated!)parts in stock to put it right,I'd be keeping it locked away in my garage(...rather than just bundled into the back of their workshop or worse still, possibly stuffed outside in their compound!)

Hope something gets sorted sharpish..and your lad gets his wheels(and freedom!)back soon.. ;-)

Just out of interest, if they are an authorised dealer why didn't you let them impound the bike?

Because if the business closes or goes bust you've probably lost your bike - or at the very least are in for a lot of hassle to maybe get it back!

In the early eighties i bought a 550 yamaha while i was still running it in the clutch bearings failed . they came and collected it from the shop and five months later i was still waiting for it to be repaired eventually i told them i didnt want it back and we did a deal on another bike *-)

The original selling dealer where we got the bike has in fact folded so we decided that the  local dealer where we are currently involved could go the same way so  we decided to keep the bike at home, it is only 10 months old.
