Madmaggott Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 We are travelling to france on Monday for a 6 week stay. As our annual policy is due to expire during the period we're away I rang today to renew prior to travelling and to advise them of the trip. I have been told that, because my OH is now 66 we will now only be covered for 30 days away instead of 60! (Should have checked the policy I suppose but that doesn't help now.) Can anyone advise an insurer who will provide an annual multi-trip policy for up to 60 days away, to cover over 66 years old and with pre-existing conditions? I do not want to go without cover but my OH is insistant that we're going with or without so I need to find something quickly.
chris Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 CCC club and goodtogoinsurance.com. Was with Saga last year but they will not cover 90 days plus and only allow maximum of 120 days in the year but they cover different dates up to about 60. Saga were the cheapest for us last year but did not cover enough days. Would still be with Saga otherwise as we have pre existing medical conditions too. Chris

Pre - existing conditions may affect.Maybe worth a callGood luck!
Big Momma Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I believe you are talking about Travel Medical/Accident Insurance rather than Vehicle Insurance ? If this is the case then perhaps try Safeguard Insurance as they do Travel Insurance as well as Vehicle Insurance. They can do single or multi-trip but not sure what length of periods or age restriuctions, sorry !

Madmaggott Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 Thanks Chris; we're not in CCC, Saga declined to quote and Good to Go will only cover 30 days and won't cover my OH for pre-existing conditions so no good I'm afraid. Our existing cover was with Safeguard; they obviously don't like over 66s! I've obtained a quoted from Manor Insurance Brokers with All Clear Insurance who will cover us but the premium is £250!
chris Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Hi Did you go for a quote online with Saga? Try phoning if that is the case as they go through all the PEM conditions then quote. Chris
Guest JudgeMental Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 staysure refused to cover me when meds were changed recently, but they have another company in the group insureme4.co.uk and they did. staysure limit was 30 days insureme4 is 55. Not cheap mind, but at least I'm insured, and if they will insure me they will insure anyone*-) most down here in spain long term rely on the EHIC card and seem happy with this. http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcareabroad/EHIC/Pages/about-the-ehic.aspx most of these insurance companies are underwritten by Mapfre, you can try them also, good luck! http://www.mapfreassistance.co.uk/
Madmaggott Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 Online, went through all the PE conditions and then declined!
PJay Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Do you bank with Nationwide? They cover us through there subsidary ,(UKI) for 90 days, both over 75 and medical conditions PJay
Keith T Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Try Halifax Bank. I have been with them for some years, and I think they will cover up to 75/80 yrs of age, and i have 60 days any trip on an annual multi-trip policy. You do need to advise any existing medical conditions, but I have advised (and excluded) mine, and they are still very competitive - I recently renewed the policy, and any other quotes I got were something like doubel my exiting one. Hope this helps Send me PM if you want any further details. Keith T.
Randonneur Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Try ADAC, a German company but I believe they are excellent and will cover you for 12 months with pre-existing conditions apparently.
Guest JudgeMental Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Madmaggott - 2012-04-24 6:11 PM Online, went through all the PE conditions and then declined! you need to call them and go through quote over the phone, a pain I know but necesary...They can then advise different company's that will cover mine cost more then £250, approx £330 but remember that's for both of you, so not that bad is it? Has doctor said OK to travel?
johnnerontheroad Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Give these a go https://www.allcleartravel.co.uk/ Dave
maggyd Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Madmaggott - 2012-04-24 5:29 PMThanks Chris; we're not in CCC, Saga declined to quote and Good to Go will only cover 30 days and won't cover my OH for pre-existing conditions so no good I'm afraid. Our existing cover was with Safeguard; they obviously don't like over 66s!I've obtained a quoted from Manor Insurance Brokers with All Clear Insurance who will cover us but the premium is £250!As regards Safeguard MM I rang them as were with them for the Van cover the young lady told me that at this time they can only cover for a max of 30 days they are changing it but it wouldnt be in time for us June! we are 68 and 75 with pre=existing med cond; and we had no trouble getting cover with CC red flag. I think it was Saga who would give us cover for £300 far too much. If you are with Nationwide and you have a Current Account with them which pays all your standing orders you can get it for free for the first 30 days after that you would pay for the extention.
Madmaggott Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 Many thanks to everyone for the helpful suggestions. I have tried almost all of the providers/brokers with the only one able to cover our existing medical conditions, ages and length of stay 45 days on an annual multi-trip policy is All Clear. The premium was initially over £300 but after excluding cancellation & baggage cover was reduced to £250.13, this through Manor Insurance Brokers which was less than going directly to All Clear! The 45 day limit applies up to age 70 whereon it reduces to 31 days. There were a few who would extend cover to up to 60 or 90 days but would not then cover existings medical conditions. NB: The aviation insurance broker that was suggested may have done better but with the limited time available I wasn't able to complete a medical declaration form and return it via snail mail as they required. Maybe my experiences will help others in a similar situation.
Guest JudgeMental Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 at least you have cover! and I don't think £250 at all bad...Just think what it would cost if something serious happened, you could add a good few noughts to the £250 figure....
Madmaggott Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 I know Judge, that's our rationale too. It just annoys me that because my OH is on Warfarin we can't go away for more than 6 weeks unless we go without adequate cover. IMO he is less likely to have any problems than someone who is not taking it. And, he has his own monitor so he tests his blood every week to ensure it is ok. We could have taken a policy without Pre-existing Meds cover, for up to 120 days away for £125 but decided, as you say, that we would rather be safe than sorry.
WhiteCheyenneMan Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Rumour has it that anything underwritten by White Horse in Ireland can be very difficult to claim on.........
Guest JudgeMental Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Im on warfrin as well (least of my problems:-D) just go to a hospital and have test, just wave yellow book at them!lol normally about 9 euros. email result to your hospital in UK. they should then email dosage back... works for me! thinking of the machine (expensive mind!) but hopsital in UK will not except self testing..but how will they know I wonder :D
Wirralian Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I have my travel insurance cover with MIA Online ltd; tel 01268 783383. I am 71 yrs and have a pre existing medical condition. I get cover for 90 days. Every year before my annual trip to Spain I phone around all the usual insurance brokers, most of which have been mentioned on this thread and each year I end up with MIA as they are the most competitive for me. The most accomodating insurer is via the CCC with 180 days but its at a premium. John
chris Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Hohn, MIA looks promising. I will get a quote from them as we need to book for July. Chris
