Is parking overnight in a lay by ok round there.

Do not know the area of pembrokeshire.

any tips places to visit, parking etc.

also are bus passes issued in england ok, had trouble getting them accepted in some parts in scotland & kent in the past.

CC sites are always booked up due to their no deposit booking system but you find people cancel (they can do this up to 72 hours in advance without penalty) in the week leading up to their booking so it's worth ringing the site 3 days in advance and asking direct with the site.

As regards bus passes - Welsh passes are not accepted in England so I would imagine it's the same the other way round.

If you dont mind 'slumming' it (not really, lol) a bit at the Haven site at Tenby, its in a great location with the town and beach in easy walking distance.

If youre energetic you can do a bit of coast path walking to Saundersfoot/Wiseman's Bridge/Amroth or get the bikes out!

Passes include all 'entertainment' (not my thing) including the pool.

Should be cheap, we had 10 days there and the extension for the last three days was............£15 for the three!

Your bus pass if issued by a English authority will not be accepted on any local buses in Wales.Same applies to bus passes issued in Wales not accepted on buses in England. wildcamping is suppose to be illegal in Wales but there are Places where you can get away with it, However some of these places i would not even consider due to night time activitys >And again how far along the S Wales coast due want to go?.

nothing fixed in mind maybe half way up the coast of west wales ans south coast from tenby onwards.

might pop into the cc sites on the day just in case, we were thinking if the sites are full going out of town and looking for a lay by.

a few years ago went to breacon beacons but gypseys seem to be everywhere so drove south to the town of mether tydal [not sure of corrrect spelling] this came across as a dreadful place did not feel safe at all, we then gave up our tour of wales and went home within 24 hours, trying again this time hoping to get better results but a bit worried about high crime in south wales

rsther than lay bys, arent pubs a better option? there are some nice country or edge of town ones, and most are willing to let you overnight if you eat or drink there. a bit of company or a quiet drink in the evening appeals to me, although some let you stay for a few pounds without having to buy food or drink.

We stayed on a lovely site within walking distance of a nice village called Manorbier........sites name is Park Farm. Coastal walk and a nice beach are a ten to fifteen minute walk. Pitches are grass but new management had taken over when we were there so this may have changed. The village had a small hotel and a nice pub . Want peace and quite........decent pint ......nice walks .......we will be going back.

.... :-o B-)

thanks for the suggestion, due to medical reasons we cannot drink alcohol, but a good idea might still pop in if i see one away from the town centre. we only have a transit size van so will leave in a car park during the day but not keen to stay overnight in one.

recently been to yorkshire [cc fully booked] so went out of town and spent odd nights in laybys and even a church carpark for one night[with permission].

hoping someone can confirm pembrokshire is a quiet place and the layby's will be ok, do not want yobs disturbing us or moved on in the middle of the night by the welsh police force.

Most of the laybys along the A40 are used by lorrys heading for or coming of the Irish ferries at Fishguard Here are a couple of sites around Tenby http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/townlisting.asp?town=Tenby or these around Pembrokeshire http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results.asp?county=Pembrokeshire There are Some nice sites around the coast from St David’s to Tenby IF you are interested there is this site in Cardiff city centre next to Glamorgan cricket ground http://www.cardiff.gov.uk/content.asp?nav=2868%2C4407%2C4410&parent_directory_id=2865 Yes Merthyr does leave a lot to be desired but the majority of People there are really friendly, The Cardiff site is run by the city council and is with in walking distance of the city centre and is set in parklands. Quiet a few people park up at County hall down in the bay at Cardiff at the weekends when the office is shut, But it can get noisy with the crowds leaving the Night clubs down the road .The Car park is also used at weekends for city park & ride. If your coming down from the Midlands come off the M50 A40 Ross & Monmouth and head to A645 Abergavenny and follow the heads of the valleys road A465 to Neath by passing Newport Cardiff and Port Talbot

Hi,

We have been wilding since 1980 & have never had a problem with being moved on etc.

We do choose where we stay carefully though.

We go to Wales twice a year & have many places marked on our map which we use, along with the occasional CL. You may find some of them useful.

On the A4139 there are 2 laybys almost opposite each other on the western outskirts of Jameston

(about 7 miles from Tenby).

There are another couple as you head North from St David's (about 3 miles). On my map (which is a few years old now) it is the A487 but Google calls it the A4971. It may have been renumbered recently.

There is also a large one which is used by lorries on the A40 just West of Whitland, right on the Pembrokeshire border.

Wherever you end up staying I hope you have a great time & the weather improves greatly.

P.S. Our bus passes say they can only be used in England. :-(

In one of those laybys is the entance to a rather lovely CL. Maybe a bit tactles to camp right outside the owners' house?

But if the OP does choose to 'wild' in Jameston, I hope he will at least buy something from the excellent village stores. And perhaps make a contribution to the village hall restoration fund?

It would be appreciated!!!!
