It is not possible to visit Le Monte now without paying €12.5.

This is not so.

Last week we stayed on an excellent campsite (14 euros and 34 cents with ACSI card and only a very small amount extra without the discount card), cycled to where the shuttle buses go, parked our bikes (free of charge) and chose to walk over to Le Mont, went into the village ( free,as ever although entry to the abbey complex is chargeable, as it was when we toured it 5 years ago) and returned on the shuttle bus (free of charge).

So Mel B your assumptions were correct regarding free cycle parking and free shuttle buses.

One point of warning if you cycle along the cycle lane by the river - it is difficult getting down from there at the steps to the cycle racks on the other side of the road (no racks have been provided at the end of the cycle route). You will be better getting off the cycle lane at the junction before the market stalls and ride along the road.

€12.5 for the day from 2am to 2 am, this means that to stay overnight it will cost you €25 !! (pay by credit card). The car park has no facilities but does have narrow spaces (narrow by motorvan standards).

It is a 3 km walk from the motorhome park to the Mont and about a 1 km walk from the park to the free shuttle bus pickup-setdown point.

The whole area resembles a civil engineering site at the moment; no doubt it will be nice when finished, but I will give it at least a full year before visiting again.

The caravan/motorvan site which was closest to the Mont has been closed (it lay within the 'exclusion zone'

A new site is under construction, but this is even further out than the new car park and I do not know what (if any) shuttle buses will operate.

Lots of people did not realise that the fee for the car park was €25 overnight, they seemed to mis-read the (not very well written) note at the barriers and think that it was 'only' €12.5: a nasty shock awaited them in the morning!

If you want to be pedantic you are correct. I will phrase " if you wish to drive through le mont it is not possible"

A new aires has been opened and looks good with hookups etc. €12.5 per night but not sure about free bus and it is a long long walk. Aprrox 500m further out an aires at €8 but a bit remote and then on to Pontosor which is free and a public bus trip in
