Has anyone used Transeuropa ferries

Yep - several times. It's owned by Belgian/Slovenian company and the passenger facing staff are Slovene. It's mainly a freight service, limited area for private passengers. The port facilities are fairly limited too. Depending on boat in service it takes anything up to 5 hours for the crossing (the Larkspur aka the Latespur). On board - no shops, no debit/credit cards, no cats/dogs etc, no coaches, no foot passengers so can be a boring trip for some. Primarily used by east europeans although a few Dutch, Germans, Belgians use it. Food is good, freshly prepared. Prices are good. Occasional unintended entertainment. On Tuesday 20 June it was the Belgian Airforce air sea rescue helicopter having a training session. No advance warning just a very loud noise which had the Riga Chapter of the Harley Club racing onto the deck. Two rescue guys were dropped off and picked up 10 minutes later and we could take as many photos as we could get. Just one point - although you can amend your tickets free of charge at any time there is a 100% cancellation charge. Hope that helps

Hi Brian Just a few more pointers should you decide to persue this crossing - Transeuropa do not use the old Ostend Line docks so you will not need to trundle through Ostend and across the front of the railway station, in fact you will not go through Ostend in the old way. Do ask the check-in staff at Ramsgate for the map. Returning to Ostend do not expect a Car Ferry sign, there isn't one, so follow the Freight Ferry sign. If you want to top up your fuel before coming home your last chance, if on the E40 Brussels - Ostend road, is at the Jabbeke services as you won't see any more. The only other point is which website did you look at. The main booking site is www.transeuropaferries.com but there is additional info at www.transeuropaferries.co.uk. Also you can ring Ramsgate and the staff are very helpful. If any more info needed do ask. Cheers
