berti Posted June 23, 2006 Share Posted June 23, 2006 hello everyone we are booked to go to the weekend garden party at stanford hall nr swinford / stanford on avon on 30th june. we will be staying in this area for a few extra days and would appreciate any info on nice sites /places to visit in the area would be appreciated as we are not familiar with this part of the country. the plan is to then travel up northeastwards to rutland water and then onto the lincoln show ( if the weather is not too awful !!) kind regards berti Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Around Northampton there are plenty of historic houses, gardens etc including Althorp, Holdenby, Lamport Hall, Castle Ashby, Kirby Hall, Deene Park, Coton Manor Gardens and Rockingham Castle. Like canals? Then there’s Foxton Locks and Stoke Bruerne Canal Museum. Civil War history at Naseby Battle Site and Museum. Historic and pretty villages of Geddington and Fotheringhay. Like motor racing? Apart from Silverstone there’s Rockingham Raceway and stock car and hot rod racing at Braefield. Site? Billing Aquadrome is the first that comes to mind, big and sprawling but there are quiet spots around the lakes and lots to do on site.
