For those interested in classic campers ;-)....................Since Horace our Travelhome hit 20 I have undertook a program of refurbishment and up grading to set him up for the next 20 years and for when we go long terming :D....

The list so far....

Upgraded...

Turned dinette seating into U shape lounge..............more suitable to lounging.

Air bags fitted by DN.................Made a big difference to the handling, no more saggy bottom, should of done it years ago.

Alu gas refillable gas system fitted by DN.........Its doubled our gas capacity, and with a campinggaz as a emergency backup the ideal system.

Fitted new flat screen tv dvd 99 squid from Morrisons.............excellent value.

Fitted new cheapo satellite system form Aldi plus extra shelf to hold the decoder ..........works fine although need larger dish for Spain.

Fitted extra 240 sockets.............we now have 7.

Fitted CO2 alarm and smoke alarm..................smoke alarm goes of every time we cook!

Refurbed

Set of new Hankooks including our 20 year old never used spare :$

Brakes overhauled 3 new cylinders so far *-)

Now he's just come back from the body shop, for the last 10 years I have been getting the zits touched up on his wheel arches every couple of years, but last year he needed welding on his front cross member so decided it was time to have it sorted properly.........before and after photo's attached, and you will see he did not look in bad nick, but once they started stripping him down his front cross member was in a very sad state

8-)

The firm in Poole have done a cracking job, indeed the cab paintwork is better than when he was new :-D................the work cost under 2k if you leave out the cost of the hire car for 3 weeks ;-)

Wow and i thought it looked good on the before photos. You've done well to keep in in such good nick. So many rough Transits about and owning one, I know how quick you have to catch the tinworm.

Any photos of the interior?

Been down this road last year with my 99 works lwb transit which had much more rust, although its never been pampered like Horace ;-)...............that cost 16 hundred for new wings and cills plus respray up to the guttering, although I have to say their workmanship is not a patch on the people in Poole ;-).....

This is a pic of the modified lounge seating, I need to up grade the foam in the base cushions as my 14 stones seems to make quite a dent these days :$..............but I'll do that myself, the upholstery is original and in pretty good nick considering, we'll see how it puts up with long terming before we change it ;-)

£2K for an upgrade to as newish. Wow that's less than some peoples depreciation :-) Certainly looks good for another 20 years !!!!

Been spending mega bucks on my Hymer too but it doesn't show :-(

New Varta starter battery shorted cell gave only 11V €160

New Front Discs and pads plus other adjustments to Belts and the Exhaust system €130

New windscreen €1600 covered 80% on the insurance.

And like you a FS tele and DVD etc..

But now back up and running for a few days out while its cooler here only 23°C.

Looking on the bright side, I could have spent €60,000+ on a new one and still had the same problems after 3 years.!!
