Some quick aires suggestions, all in Dept 24 (Dordogne), and have stayed on each one:

Perigueux: Large recently built aire, within walking distance of interesting town.

St Cyprien: At base village with nice view of same.

La Roque-Gageac: Aire not special but at edge of one of nicest villages in Dordogne.

Brantome: 2 aires here. One right in centre, fine but on grass so if wet not so good. Second at Font-Vendrom, motor home manufacture, is well set out with electric etc but a good walk to town.

Souzac: NIce quite aire near river and v. good bistro; good for a couple days relaxation.

Sarlat-La-Caneda: Easy walk to lovely Sarlat but many do not like this aire. Car park style, next to road, vans park very close etc so up to you on this one.

Hope these help. Nice and sunny in Loire again to day, so maybe a couple of days round here on way down?

We have just come back from the Dordogne, we had the best weather of our holiday there. We stayed at an ACSI site called Le Perpetuum at Domme, just down from Sarlat. It is a lovely site at just 12e per night, although now you will have to pay full price. We stayed down the bottom of the site next to the river and its very quiet there.

Co-ordinates are: N44 58'56" E01 13'14"

There is also an Aire at La Roque Gageac, although it was busy when we were there so be warned.

We also went to Gouffre de Padirac where there is an aire, not far from the caves.

Then the Aire at Rocamdour N44 48.254' E001 37.299' DO NOT go through the village of Rocamadour.

Hope you find the sun :-D

Camping Le Capeyrou at Beynac et Cazenac on the Dordogne River below the Chateau. Big pitches, lovely pool, Basic shops including boulangerie, butcher and Spar type general shop right opposite. In the village about 400 metres away are a chemist ,restaurants, cash machine etc.

Run by a delightful young couple . Includes a small bar, terrace and free wifi.

Popular with Brits.

We must have called in there twice a year ever since 2004 en route South.

Thoroughly recommended. Price low season with electric € 17.60 per night

We've just got back from 3.5wks travelling around the area.... so can recommend the following -

Angoulins sur Mer - Near to La Rochelle (about a 10 min drive out) recommend transport, like bikes or scooter or car

Free Car park style aire right nr sea, seperate water dump/water available on way to aire ( N45º36'33 W0º35'50)

Actual overnight parking available at Rue du Chay - N46.106216 W1.135712, also about 5 more spaces further along the same road.

Verteuil-sur-Charente

Free aire gravel car park style in small village. This is next to a saw mill, but wasn't too noisy when we were there. Water/dump available.

N45.979861 E0.235251

Brantome

As previously mentioned, the aire is grass but right on the river. Very peaceful. Only a 2 minute walk into the town. Man comes round every morning at 8am for money - now 4 euros per night. Water dump available.

Collonges la rouge N45.058612, E1.659196

Gravel aire just outside beautiful village. 5 euros a night, man comes round usually 7pm at night or sometimes in morning as well. Full water dump facilities and bread van each morning except Sunday.

Good local places to visit.

(Free aire are available nearby at Turenne N45º3'14 E1º34'47)

Souillac N 44.891596 E1.476749

Free aire within walking distance of town and river. All facilities available. Nice and quiet.

Catus N44.555847 E1.33901

Small village with free aire and water dump right on river/canal/stream. Nearby lake available for fishing and day parking or you can park near lake overnight as well although I would think you may get some road noise.

Mirepoix N43.085169 E1.873944

Two parted aire, free parking with water and toilet dump and water supply. A fabulous market on the Monday mornings, well worth a visit. Don't try and arrive on the Monday mornings as its on the edge of a very popular car park for market visitors.

Good ACSI campsite (although I think now not doing ACSI price for summer)

Villefranche de Rouergue N44.34245 E2.026098

Get there in for Thursday morning market which is awesome.

Hope this helps.... we had a fabulous time and if you like a market/car boot sale then take a look at http://brocabrac.fr/

and select which area you're visiting for local car boots..... we got some amazing bargains!!

There are two Aire In Brantome, one at Font Vendome adjacent to their showroom/Factory and the other beside the river which can be muddy/dusty depending on the season :-) but much closer to the town and its attractions.

Weather here is about 23°C in the shade and blue skies, increasing to 30+° over the next couple of days and then we get some English weather  ie sunny spells showers and temperatures round 22°C. Maybe hotter still as you get closer to the Lot.

There's another very good site at Limeuil - lovely old medieval village .

It's where the Dordogne and Vezere rivers meet.

Hopefully the squadrons of mozzies will have moved on by now :D
