limerick
A friend is buying a second hand motorhome and was asking me which would be the best build a Benimar or a Dethleff as I drive a Pilote myself I'm not in a position to advice him.Would welcome any advice that I could pass on to him
flicka
Hi Limerick. The Benimar is built in Spain & the Dethleffs in Germany. I have no knowledge of the Benimar to offer. The Dethleffs motorhomes are generally acknowledged to be a good build quality compared to their competetive manufacturers. Benimar have a single UK Dealer, whereas Dethleffs have a couple of dealers in Ireland & many in the UK, if that is of any concern. http://www.benimar.com.es/index.php/es/red-de-distribuidores/mapa http://www2.dethleffs.de/gb/dealer/dealer_search.php?country_id=

Guest JudgeMental
Instinctively I say the Dethleff. had a new Benimar on a months hire a few years ago (due to no fault accident and insurance payed for it) We went down to Spain.. What I noticed was the panels inside where heavy chipboard and clips for awning rails etc...had come out already, and when I tried to screw them back it was cheap mush board.... Brian Kirby
Dethleffs is a part of the Hymer group, which often means there will be a similar van available from other members of that group. If a particular layout is favoured, that may broaden the choice in terms of dealers and internal finishes and furnishings. So, maybe Hymer, TEC, LMC, Burstner, and possibly Laika would have equivalents to the Dethleffs model. My personal view is that Burstner, for example (another Hymer group member), seem to achieve a slightly better standard of finish than I have seen on Dethleffs models. They also have an excellent reputation for spares availability, and for customer service at the factory at Kehl, which is just across the Rhine from Strasbourg. Benimar are part of the Trigano group who, as a whole, don't seem to enjoy quite such an enviable reputation for customer service or spares availability. Whether Benimar are the exception I can't say, but doubtless others can.
