The simple way of remembering the basic formula for calculating power in a DC (Direct Current) circuit is:

"For Power"

"Four Power"

"IV" = Power (Roman numerals)

I x V = Power

Geddit?

You are of course correct in your understanding and the above is just one of the many mnemonics rattling round my brain (I thought that it might be helpful to share it with you and other readers of this forum).

Many many years ago when I were a lad at school we visited the electric tramway workshops at Eastbourne as part of a careers group of visits - very enlightened for 1959 I have often since thought!

At one point I was asked by the rather formidable (well he was to a fourteen year old me) foreman if 'they' had taught me anything about electric currents and power use and I just looked blank (normal for me even then!) he bellowed at us all - "WATTS IS VOLTS TIMES AMPS for those of you that don't know" - and it has kinda stuck in my memory - for 53 years so far!
