There are special polishing kits you can get to deal with scratches on plastic. They use progressively less harsh pastes then polishes to gradually remove scratches without leaving the whole area unsurfaced. Most accessory shops do NOT have them, but you could try RD Aviation at Oxford Airport (01865 841441) who I know do have such kits for use on the cockpit canopies of gliders and light aircraft (also plastic).
