trickydicky
hi, we have a gas barbeque that we used regularly when we had a gas connection on the outside of our autotrail.only problem is, we haven't got the autotrail now......hence no connection. we asked at b & q.....they want a total of over £60 just to get us a 5k bottle.surely there must be a cheaper way of getting some gas. Tracker
Buy an empty calor or camping gaz bottle at a car boot sale and exchange it for a full one is what most of us do. If you changed vans recently through a dealer they might be able to find a spare bottle for you - always worth the ask? Try Flogas - I think their bottles are no deposit? flicka
Hi trickydicky Try your Council's local waste / recycling depot, most of them usually have a stock of various types / sizes and a donation to cover a few drinks for the operators should secure one. mikebeaches
Google for a bottled gas supplier local to where you live. They will almost certainly have an alternative brand to Calor, and most likely not charge for the initial bottle, just the cost of the re-fill - which is going to be less than Calor in any case. BGD
Or just solve your problems permanently and buy one of those Coleman Dual fuel stoves instead, and a frying pan or griddle to go on top. It uses petrol, which is available everywhere! I've had one for over 20 years now, and really wouldn't be without it. Utterly bulletproof, fantastic in operation, folds down to very small and neat "briefcase" size in it's own casing. Takes about 1 minute to set up. Works in high winds. Works in every country in Europe. A pint of petrol in a container in your MH boot, and you're sorted for about a years worth of fuel for it. It can even be used inside the MH if your on-board gas supply expires, or be used in the garden at home, taken on picnics/ fishing trips etc etc. One fill of petrol in it's little tank thingy lasts literally for many many hours of operation. Like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/coleman-dual-fuel-stove-/261075872856?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Camping_CookingSupplies_ET&hash=item3cc955ac58#ht_500wt_949 HIGHLY recommended as a great alternative to the bulky, temperamental, and damned expensive other BBQ/outdoor cooking options. paulmold
Depending on your location (I'm 10 miles from Chester/Wrexham), I have an empty Camping Gaz 907 cylinder and also a full 907 cylinder, both surplus for sale. Will be put on Ebay shortly if no use to you.
Tracker
Not so keen on having petrol in the van so we have one of these, and a couple of spare cartridges, instead as an outside or inside backup cooker in case of onboard gas failure. http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/150837404215?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&cbt=y

PJay
trickydicky - 2012-08-02 9:33 PM thanks all for your replies.those who have a gas bottle to sell....unfortunately we don't live close enough to come and buy. If you give us an idea of the area you live, you may get more replies, as we also have a bottle, and took an old one to the local marina, to dispose of it. I noticed also that the our local Homebase sell calor, not sure about the bottle situation, as the are offering to sell , would maybe supply a bottle?? pepe63xnotuse
If fitting a bbq point isn't an option(have you still got a MH?),then as has been said already, explore the boot sales/local small ads'/local "tip" route....You don't *really* want(or need!) to be paying the full deposit and signing up for a new "agreement".... :-S Again,as others have said, your (approximate)location would be usefull........
