To those of you who are already involved in suporting Dawn Rogers to create an Aire de Service/motorhome stopover in Pembrokeshire if you haven't already heard from her would you please e-mail Pembokeshire County Council at the following e-mail address showing your support.Stewart.Longhurst@Pembrokeshire.gov.uk Dawn is trying to create the first privately owned Aire de Service on the style of continental Aires and is two years down the road of trying to obtain planning permision and is having to resubmit her plans for a second chance. We have until July 14 2006 to get our voices heard on this important matter. Somehow or other all the letters of support except one from Brownhills who support the application seem to have gone astray but the objectors letters have not; strange that. I've tried to paste her letter into this message but cannot but if you need more information please e-mail me at williamleslieord@aol.com and I will send an attachment of the letter. To those of you who would like to see a similar system to the continent operate here now is your chance to do something to help,if we can only get one Aire up and running it will be a start and an example to hold up to other councils. Give it your best shot Bill Ord

Typed up an e mail & sent last night It’s about time this country got a little more camper friendly However, like most changes in this UK the paths are very steep & covered with bureaucratic red tape It would be great if MMM should publish an article on the proposed site with a few pickies Very good luck & hope to call in on your first opening night Keep us all posted!

What a great idea Bill - I totally support the plan and have just sent off my e-mail to the council. Following the advice given by MMM's Graham Hambly to go out and do something if we wish to see aires in this country, I too have been in consultation with my local authority - Redcar and Cleveland - to develop an aire in Guisborough. I first wrote to the Chief Executive in January 2005. After receiving an initial brush off from him I wrote again and had meetings with my local councillors, MP, Guisborough Market town Initiatve and (eventually) the council staff specifically involved in developing tourism in this part of the world. It has been slow and frustrating at times but everyone involved so far has been totally supportive once the idea and potential benefits have been explained. I found that there was a great deal of misunderstanding about what a motorhome was and even what facilities they have on board. These and other issues had to be overcome by showing them my own van and detailing just how simple facilities at an aire could be. In fairness to the council, there are points that do have to be addressed (quite apart from their pre-occupation with 'travellers') including the changing of parking orders here in my area. This, necessarily, involves quite a few of the council departments and getting them together is the biggest hurdle of all. However, we are now at the stage where the Cabinet Member for Culture and Tourism has convened a committee to ensure the idea is progressed and implemented. For anyone who would like to the opportunity to stay overnight in this lovely ancient market town and see more of the local area could I also please ask you to support my efforts by e-mailing the Cabinet Member for Culture and Tourism at: david_fitzpatrick@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk and express your support for overnight parking and aire de service in Guisborough. As Bill quite rightly says, once one of these developments gets agreed it will make it so much easier for others to follow suit. Even within Redcar and Cleveland they will consider other places such as the coastal area but it does need the support of the motorhoming fraternity - and that also includes the editors of publications like MMM and Which Motorcaravan who could also e-mail Councillor Fitzpatrick (in my case) and Stewart Longhurst in the case of Dawn Rogers. Thank you, in advance, to anyone who takes the time to support either initiative. Best regards, David

Bill thanks for highlighting this - I and another member have copied details across to motorhomefacts - hope it results in many more messages of support. Have looked at the council's planning site, and they don't exactly welcome comments by e-mail *-) also the lst of appliactions is not up to date - only provided up to the end of May! People will have to send individual e-mails; don't for get to incude the reference number in full & give your own name & postal address.
