Mike-T
Hello folks, We have travelled before with a camper van and even taken our cat to spain by car, however we are looking to spend several weeks in the uk in our camper. A further trip to spain will also envolve taking the cat. We would welcome any sugestions and experiences that others may have had coping with pets while travelling and also whilst staying on campsites. Thanks, Mike
david lloyd
Hi Mike We have two dogs and have taken them to France a couple of times. Firstly, and most importantly, make sure your Pets Passport documentation is complete and accurate at all stages - the return journey is a doddle after that but, if it isn't, it could be a nightmare. The most obvious thing about travelling is to ensure they have fresh water (they get as dehydrated as we do), a 'comfort' break on long journeys and (whilst you are driving) are secure in the vehicle. Even a cat weighing only 5 - 6 kgs can become a deadly missile in the event of a sudden stop if not restrained securely, preferably by a proper harness attached to a seat belt. I can't recall having any difficulty on sites either here or abroad with pets although there are one or two that charge (sometimes excessively) for pets even when they don't provide facilities such as dog walks or bins. I have often seen people with cats, usually keeping them on leads, and was next to a German couple in France this year who had a cat that never strayed far from their caravan. Other than that Mike it is a matter of using common sense and, since you will be in a strange area with lots of new and strange smells for your pet to investigate, keep a close eye on themn to catch them before they start to stray.
