Refurbishing exterior paintwork

Our van is now over six years old and the exterior paint is looking dull and lacklustre. Does anybody know of a treatment or firm attackable from North Wales that is capable of restoring the paintwork and then sealing it with one of these treatments that are now available, who also have the space and equipment to tackle an overcab motorhome 7 metres long?

Are we talking GRP if so you need a marine product like farecla its a sort me t.cut for fibre glass. Prob best to use an industrial rotary buffer but read up first on how to get best results or you Will see circles.

Hope that helps

If it's aluminium don't be tempted to T cut it, just use a good quality polish one which is very good at bringing back the finish is "Mer Hybrid" it's expensive about £30 a Litre but worth it, then finish with a polymer sealant (often called paint sealant) about 10 quid a bottle the same products that the professionals will charge you a few hundred quid to apply.

Paintseal Direct apparently offers a 'home visit' service (treatment is not DIY). For treating a motorhome around 7 metres long Paintseal Direct quotes £599.

A-Glaze products can be purchased for DIY use, but you'd need to check with the company whether there are agents close to you who would treat your motorhome for you.

This type of treatment is best applied to new vehicles and, personally, I wouldn't dream of spending £600 on treating a 6-years old motorcaravan (Pity you haven't provided any details of your motorhome's make/model).

Advice has been given by other forum members regarding DIY cleaning and MMM published the following article

If DIY cleaning is unattractive or impracticable for you, you might want to consider having your motorhome professionally cleaned/polished but not 'paintsealed'. This should be considerably cheaper and (unless there is something physically wrong with your motorhome's paintwork), should restore the paintwork to 'as new'. GOOGLE on "motorhome valeting" (omitting the quotes) for companies offering that service.

Just an alternative thought...........

Maybe save the 600 squids, and use that money instead to carry on touring/enjoying it.

It ain't a fashion catwalk after all, it's simply a tool to enable you to go off and see/enjoy the world. If it functions perfectly, why worry?

Our ancient 1992 motorhome looks like an absolute dog. But it works just fine, and just keeps on working.

We had our van professionally cleaned and polished 2 years ago. Cost us about 150.00, but was well worth it. The guy will come out to you. His company is Tourershine, and he uses Autoglym products.

Since having it done, we just wash the van with Autoglym shampoo, and then use Super Resin Polish on an electric buffer to polish it up. Comes up like new.

Thanks everybody, and Derek, we still have the Euramobil on the same base as yours. We are now investigating the information you have all given us. We have decided to keep this van as we can find nothing else we can afford which suits us! DonB
