wife just came back from pool with the news that there are severe water shortages in Croatia...apparently no rain since May 8-)

We are enjoying the end of out stay in lake Garda the Beverley hills of Italy :D And tommorow heading down to Tuscany. Then in a weeks time a ferry over to Split in Croatia to complete our 6 week summer trip.

there is always the sea to swim in but how bad are these shortages? will the swimming pools be dry? *-)

Anyone visited Croatia recently?

Judgemental, We are due in Croatia in a couple of weeks so this was a worry. Looking at the Croatian Times over the past few days and the main item that was reported are water shortages hitting crops. No reports of water rationing or anything like that.

Other than that half of Europes politicians are holidaying on the Dalmatian coast along with Michael Schumacher so can't be that bad.

Just got into Umbria today from Tuscany and it has cooled down to a bearable 35 deg...... it has been over 40 for a good few days.... Crossing to Split on Sunday night and we have only had sporadic internet access but have come to same conclusion as mainly crops affected. will post back when we get there.......

Not many replies Judge, so, it was some years back and we were in a hotel but here goes.

In the mountains there was no problem.

By the coast the hotel we were in turned the water off (or someone did) from 8.00 am to 8 pm.

There was no water for toilets , showers, baths etc.

The locals queued with 20 ltr plastic water containers so they could use the single outside tap at the hotel.

Their water was off permanantly.

It has probably changed now, and anyway we just had to drink beer all day. We spent most of the day in the pool so everything worked out OK.

EDIT Not much info about but I found this http://tinyurl.com/d87segj

I spoke last night to a friend (ex-pat) who lives about two hours drive from Dubrovnik. No water rationing, this is the first he's heard about it, but there are restrictions on farmers. He says no problems. Hope this helps.
