Best route over the alps Mont Blanc tunnel or....?

Advice for an Alps novice please :-D

Will be travelling from Macon/Lyon area in mid September on our way to Como and Garda Lakes area.

Not sure which is the best way across the Alps in our 3.5 ton Adria MH.

Don't want to go into Switzerland so the alternatives look like:

Mont Blanc tunnel from Chamonix area or Frejus tunnel from near Grenoble.

Several Col routes 'over the top' look nice green routes on the maps (such as Albertville to Val d'Lesere) but what are they like in a MH?

Any advice on best scenic and safe routes gratefully received.

Thanks

Both Mont Blanc tunnel and Frejus are fine for motorhomes but are expensive. Last time we were that way coming back from Italy into France we went over Col de Mont Cenis which was amazing. It was fine for motorhomes, a bit steep in places but it is over the Alps! There is a cafe at the summit.

Enjoy your trip.

Tunnels are expensive. If you have the time Val route is great as coming out of Val you go over the Col L I'seran which is the second highest in europe and a really easy drive. Their is a small CL type campsite just outside of Val. You can then go over the Madeleine and divert of to Mont Cenis, as has been suggested. If you are into free camping a lot of people stop at the lake here and it is a fantastic spot. It is right on the French/Italy border and easy to spend a couple of days walking, lots of old forts and an abandoned village. You can find a short description of the route as part of a writeup I did on the Route of the High alps, just search on here under my name.

Thanks to Rupert and Petra - great route suggestions.

Looking closely at the Col du Mont Cenis to Susa route from Chamonix via Albertville and Moutiers to Val d'Isere. Much better than the tunnels. Bit of a long way round but pleanty of time to do it.

Having played through several You Tube videos of cars and bikers driving these areas the summer roads look drivable if you keep away from the edges!

Even better news with the diesel price reduction announced today.

Cheers
