Has anyone out there driven to or holidayed in Poland recentlu and if so what is the security like in there? We have read that the targeting of foreign cars/vans etc. is high and very risky. The caravan club also seem to suggest the risks are high in this country (according to their site book). Has anyone stayed on any caravan/campsites there or parked up in any of the town centres, motorway services (if there are any) and if so did they find this risky? After all this is going to be a holiday, so what do people advise? Kind regards Kevin and Kath Hawkins

Kind regards Kevin and Kath Hawkins[/QUOTE] :-) HI,,,,,,,,,,, there are crimes everywhere, but we went to poland with our combi camp tt this summer, early may, and we didn't have any trouble, didn't meet any burglars, thieves, man killers. But we did remember leaving our car at garded parkinglots most of the time.If you are going to poland, don't expect that the campgrounds have the same standard as in the west, but at the places we used, we could get warm water, showers, do our dishwashing etc.etc. Don't expect that they ,only very few, can speak english or german. Yes we are going again next year. The road conditions are from bad, good, to excellent, we did some places 100/110 with the tt behind our golf4. have a nice day henning 79 combi camp easy 92 combi camp family 02 cv, Hymer 230gt. golf4, 20v

My wife and I travelled Northern Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in our van last August, without mishap.
We never booked ahead at a campsite, but we did use formal campsites researched from the net before we left.  We were never approached by police or others.

These seem to be the tricks and information we picked up on the way (our experience, please don't take any of this as "definite", life never is)...

As with any country, "most" people are good.
Thieves target new luxury cars mostly.  They tend to stay away from vans, particularly small, aged ones like ours!
Use a "visible" steering lock.
When parking in towns and cities, look for patrolled car parks... those where you have to pay cash on entry and someone is there all day.
Camping in recognised camp sites is safe.
If being flashed by another car, unless the car is heavily marked as a police car, don't stop.  If you believe that the car "may" be police, keep driving to the nearest town and find the police station.

If you find a safe car park, and if you camp in formal campsites, you will feel more relaxed and have a better time.

Hope this helps.
