Omnistor Awning Rail Extrusion

Hi,has anyone ever had any trouble with Omnistor Awning rail extrusion.

The difficulty is that I cannot fit a awning front extrusion cord to it properly

It seems that there is two sizes of extrusion cord one about 5mm diam and the other 8mm diameter and neither fir properly.

I can get the 5mm size in but then it pulls out in a wind, the 8mm size just will not slide into the groove more than 1mtr.

I have tried to rub candle wax onto the extrusion cord but still no joy.

Can anyone help me please :-(

I think the two sizes are supposed to be 4mm or 6mm...

Can't really help as the groove on our onmistor takes the 6mm bead on our canopies/porch awning fine, with no hint of it pulling out ...

(..the groove on ours' is inside the outer rail..I close it as much as I can, then secure each end with a couple of small luggage straps...)

This page has various bits'n'bobs...some of which may come in handy....

As pepe63 says, on-line comments confirm that the standardised diameter of 'awning beads' is 4mm or 6mm.

It should be expected that using 4mm bead in a channel intended for 6mm may cause the bead to pull out in windy weather. If you have bead that's genuinely 8mm-diameter and are trying to guide it through 6mm channelling, then it's bound to jam (though, as you've managed to get the bead a metre in, I'm doubtful it actually is 8mm diameter).

As vindiboy advises, try lubricating the awning rail channel with a silicone-based product. "Mr Sheen" or a non-wax furniture polish seem popular, and there's also this stuff:

you can also buy channel adapter filler. it has one diameter to fit the rail and the other channel is sized to fit the cord on the awning it just slides in no problem, hope this makes sense?

is that this product?

I didn't explain myself properly Sorry.

The extrusion bead is 6mm that I'm trynig to get into the awning rail,as you all say there is only 2 sizes 6mm and 4mm.the 4 mm goes in ok but puls out the 6 mm only goes in a very short way.

I have tried measuring the bead channel on the awning rail and it comeos out at a very tight 19/64 which is about 7.5mm.the bead when measured as the best I can is nearly 7mm dismeter.

You can see there is very little lee-way to work in

The bead goes into the figure eight plastic channel that you can buy easily that is used for driveaway awnings etc.

I'm beginning to think I have a slight undersized awning rail

Alls well now.

After trying variouse silicone sprays etc and checking sizes with a micrometer, drill bits etc I have succeded.

A bit of leverage with a 2inch floor chissel did the trick,I prised the awkward channel apart and now the extrusion beads fits allright.

A big thakyou to all who sent me tips and links alls well that ends well..THANKYOU ALL
