WiFi Aerials & dBi

Apologies for the empty post a little earlier ...

]

Several people have already praised the reasonably priced Rocket - http://www.faculty-x.net/NET-WL-ROCKET_BG

Has anyone experience of the more expensive Zead Z-200 - http://www.laleisure.co.uk/zead-z-200-high-power-wireless-n-usb-adaptor.php

The Rocket doesn't seem to be Wireless-N ("11b/g") - is that the case?

Also the Rocket has a 9bDi gain and an operating distance of 500m, whereas the Zead with the same gain claims 1000m.

Could this be due to the N technology, or is it just wishful thinking on their part?

I have a Rocket and for the money it's not bad.

I have no direct experience of the Zlead but as it is a omnidirectional aerial I would think they are being optimistic & vastly over priced.

To get a decent range you need to look at directional aerials.

If you want long range a Yagi aerial is the best option these usually come only as an aerial so you need to connect it to a suitable receiver/router..

Thanks Lenny & Graham - I think I'll forget about the Zead, as it is expensive.

The problem isthat the Rocket is out of stock at Faculty-X, and elsewhere http://www.solwise.co.uk/wireless-usb-rocket-b-g.htm it does say it's been discontinued.

Here http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=14289 it seems that there is a Wireless-N variant due later this year.

So it looks like I'll have to wait a while - no doubt with a huge price increase ...

Hi Dave,

Just had a quick look and there is one on Ebay :-

Item Number 251173421607.

That is the same one i have, identical box etc and it says it`s new.

Either that or wait for the new one out later in the year.

I`ve just given the item number because the last time i did a link to an

item on Ebay it was... HUGE.......LOL and really messed everything up.

Regards.

Graham.
