Dartford crossing tolls

Quick calculation with Autoroute shows about 13 miles further M1 to M20 going anticlockwise than clockwise. For us (VW T5) that's about £2.70 extra diesel so at £2.50 per crossing it's just about even stevens. Recently we have used the clockwise route and found it quicker than the other way so that's the way we will go.

By re-calculating from the North of the West Midlands (North of M6 J8) it is a little nearer using the M40 and an anticlockwise M25.

However if we had a crystal ball to tell of delays we could plan the quickest and most cost effective but until that is possibe we will stick to the way we like. There seems to be very little to choose between paying the toll or travelling a bit further.

TomTom IQ routes is supposed to do this, it will route you depending on time of travel, and the traffic updates should also change route, trouble is the traffic updates will warn you of a problem 4hrs (or so ) down the road which you know full well will not be there when you get there.

My daughter has an app for everything so sure there must be one for traffic..

In car the other day song came on I said I liked, she holds her phone up to radio, within seconds the artist appears with picture on screen along with song name and you can press and listen

Dropping at station this morning, I say your going to miss train..phone out again no dad it's delayed

Technology is certainly moving on!

And here comes the rub.

Motorists face fines of up to £180 if they fall foul of a new tolling system described as a "Trojan Horse" for pay-as-you-drive charge on major roads. The system will initially operate from October 2014 on the Dartford Crossing. Ministers acknowledge it is just the first.

Fines will start a £60 if paid in full within 14days of the penalty being issued. This raises to £120 if over 14days but before a 'charge certificate' is served. The £180 fine applies after the charge has been served.

The regulations allow the authorities to 'immobilise, remove, store or dispose (crush) of vehicles where there are three or more outstanding charges'.

So there you have it 'cash cows' "Grand Theft Auto" What a surprise waiting after spending the winter in Spain, but committed the 'Crime' on your way out

This reminds me about a film that was based on fact where a lot of brave soldiers died, mistakenly with the idea that they would be fighting for the freedom of their country.

But if you pay then you haven't committed a crime, so no fine

Well you sit back and and let the government walk over you or keep paying mate. I'll go the longer route. much nicer.

Oh by the way, it doesn't stop there, Dartford is the first. Motorways the next.
