malc d
If and when you are travelling down the west coast of France you may find it interesting to try the D948 across to the Isle of Noirmoutier - with caution. It's flooded twice a day by the sea to a depth of 4 to 13 feet ( depending on season / conditions ). We were there in September,( on bikes ), and were surprised to see queues of vehicles apparently waiting to cross. Actually most of them simply turned off the road, parked on the sea bed, and the occupants went off to collect shellfish. It has been used in stages of the Tour de France. There is a handy municipal site in the village of St.Gervais just a few miles inland.
PJay
We took the alternative route earlier this year, but noticed that a bus did come that way. Quiet a nice area of France, if you don't want to travel to far, or are restricted by time.
