Spain

Firstly thanks to all who offered help and advice regarding Morocco, yes we are going!!

Now please can you help with Spain. Routes to Algeciras, cheap aires and stopovers. We are familiar with France through to Greece but turning right at Calais is a whole new world. Spain is a big country and there are lots of mountain ranges and the main routes seem to be toll roads so do you have up to date toll prices. Also we are not lovers of built up tourist areas but we do enjoy the coast. We are leaving the UK at the end of April so wonder what to expect regarding weather. If it makes a differance to suggested routes, our van is a Burstner Delfint700 and we plan on being away for 2 months. Our thinking is to get there quite quickly and dawdle home after 2 weeks in Morocco. Please be honest if you think its too much. Thanks from Tarts on Tour.

Spanish toll roads are good and cheap compared to their neighbors *-) also not all sections are charged (like France) BUT! motorhomes are Class 1 the same as cars.....personally dont see the point of avoiding as any time we have we regretted it as roads not that good..

not many Aires as such is Spain. plenty of sites though, "all the aires of Spain" book so thin a waste of time, you can get info through a google search. ACSI debatable as well, as many sites especially for long stays cheaper...

use the forum search function its pretty good and lots of past threads on this topic

Oh! weather is Portugal seems to be much better at the moment. Morocco a long way for just a few weeks...

Vicarious books do a range of Aires books for France, Iberia and Morocco as well as the very handy Camperstop UK. covering almost all of Western Europe.

Not cheap books but accurate, easy to use and very handy in our view and very easy to recoup the total cost by judicious use of freebies or paying a few euros a night if sites do not appeal.

Hi,

We are doing a similar thing this Feb but for 4 months. Like you, we normally go to Greece and Turkey but fancy a change this year, I think we may have communicated by email about Greece in the past (?)...

Our plan is to go down the west coast of France into Spain via Irun, Burgos, Palencia, Salamanca, Caceres, Zafra, Seville to Algeciras for the ferry.

We have located aires for overnights from the Campincar-infos website at Burgos, Palencia, Valladolid, Caceres, Zafra and near Seville and a few other parking areas en route as a back up.

If you have a satnav its also worth loading the poi's from this website as there are loads of stoppovers listed for both France, Spain and Morocco.

If you have refillable gas bottles there are several lpg stations on this route as well inc one fairly close to Algeciras as LPG is not avilable in Morocco.

Presume you already know about getting your ferry tickets from Carlos near the Lidl at Algeciras?

Pete

From border into Spain go to VITORIA, PALENCIA then CACERES these places have all got good aires which are free and the Caceres has free electric . The road across Spain is very good and free, look out for all the Stalk nest along the road

Just to warn you, not all motorhomes are class 1. Twin axles are class 2 and they usualiy lean out of their cabin to check. Hope this helps someone.

Keith. (sooty)

Burstner Delfin T700 is not a twin axle......whats wrong with checking what category a van falls into and charging the correct toll *-)

reminds me a a thread a while back, a chap got away with higher toll on Mileu bridge one way, and was complaining about getting hammered on way back.....the mind boggles :D

Hi

We are over-wintering in Spain at present (and have done so many times) and always use the French website www.campingcar-infos.com for up to date information about aires in France and Spain (and many other countries too). It is free, more comprehensive, more accurate and more up-to-date than the Vicarious book. The downside is that it is in French but it is very easy to follow.

Have a good trip.
