marchhare
we'd like to see some of the tour this year [2013], obviously the mountain stages would be intresting so the scenery would be the bonus. 1 or 2 stages will be enough as its not the main focus of our hoiday, we'll be in france for six weeks from early june. we could with some tips please if any of you has done this:- .........how soon should we be place before the stage e.t.c.. also we can only carry 14 gals of water thats for toilet flushing as well, so three days in one spot would be max

Tony Jones
We've never had a problem just rolling up somewhere the night before, but we weren't trying to get on any of the prime spots (eg summits, finish lines etc). Our water tank only lasts 24hrs, unless one of us forgoes the shower and just has a "splash!" We tend to arrive during the day before, and drive down one of the climbs until we find a place we fancy. Usually a few others join us later! The uphill bits are best, as the race is slower and more spread out. We caught two stages last year (one in the Alps, one in the Pyrenees) but this year our itinerary doesn't really match the Tour - we hope to catch the stage into St Malo, but that'll be all. If you want to PM me, I'll give you a bit more detail & pics about the places we stopped last year, but neither of them is on the 2013 so it'll only be of general interest. sshortcircuit
Will be crossing about the same time for about 6/7 weeks. This will be the third tour we have taken in and it is so easy. Previously we just arrived the day before and found great spots. Last year we had a spot just out of Duclare. It was south facing and had an elevated view of the Seine with all the barges going past just magic as we were very very lucky. Another three MHs joined and we had plenty room. We carry about 110lt of water, which is about the same, plus bottled drinking water and three days would be easily achievable. There is an art in conserving water ie a shower is not a constant running of water. Will probably be in the St Malo area but have yet to plan trip. Whatever enjoy as it is so sociable. The caravan proceeding the race is very colourfull and lasts about 20/30 minutes. The race itself passes in the blink of an eye, but is well worth it
