To cover or Not to cover Roof vent in Shower

Went to visit the van yesterday, as we have been away, , and not checked it for six weeks.

Found some mould on the Outer wall of toilet room, on the cupboard next to cooker and a little in fridge (Left Open) It all wiped off OK.

Wonder if we should have covered the vent with a plastic bag,. Always felt it a good idea to leave some ventiilation, in van..We do not have the use of electricity, on site,We did remove all the cushions before hand

What do others do, cover vent or not??

If you have not got access to power point for heater or dehumidifier then it is worth getting some Calcium Chloride crystals and containers for it.

e.g.

This will absorb any excess damp when you put into storage and I have found works very well. Small container in fridge , another in shower and large container in living area.

More ventilation, not less is the usual answer to combat damp.We open every door and cupboard in the van to ensure the air is circulating as much as possible. If the air inside and out is at the same temp there should be no condensation.

Ditto above, and with all the drop vents you should get a reasonable amount of ventilation, we leave all cupboard doors open, and leave all soft furnishings inside, never had a problem yet ( touch wood ) and have never used those Chrystal thingy's but it may help, some put a bowl of salt in as well. ;-)

The crystals do work and we have always used them, just yesterday we emptied ours we just have two long ones place on large plant trays one each end of the van, there was about 1" of water in both, probably because O.H has been in and out of the van doing odd jobs. Whatever you do don't cover vents and leave all cupboards and bathroom doors open as already has been said trapped cold air will soon turn into mildew. :-)
